Written for RDP where Punam’s word of the day
is ‘chimera’ and for Sue and Gerry’s Weekly Prompt –
The One Day Prompt. Here’s where the prompts took me.

One day, while helping my Great Aunt Agatha do some house cleaning, I accidentally knocked over her Chinese jade chimera statue. I love my Great Aunt Agatha but I wasn’t terribly upset about the broken statue; I thought it was rather ugly. You can imagine my shock and confusion when Great Aunt Agatha went ballistic and tore into me.
“You irresponsible idiot!”, she screamed.
“But Aunt Agatha!” I protested. “You always said this was an old, worthless piece of junk!”
Great Aunt Agatha looked like she was about to lunge at me. “What I said was this is an ‘ancient priceless relic’! It’s irreplaceable and worth a fortune!”
It sure looked like junk to me.

Well, if you ask me, aunt Agatha should’ve had her priceless statue in a safer place. Accidents happen!

Oh yes! If it was so precious, it should have been better protected.

Thanks so much, Lisa. I’ve been a big fan of Bobby Darin all my life. When I was a child growing up in The Bronx, there was an amusement park called Freedomland. Performers like Bobby Darin and Connie Francis and Louis Prima would perform in the Moon Bowl and that was the beginning of my love affair with concerts and live music.

It was a wonderful experience. Freedomland was just a 20 minute drive from our house and we’d go often. Back then, the entrance fee was $5 and that included all rides, exhibits and entertainment for the day …. not a bad deal! Thanks, Lisa.

Oh … if it was a valuable relic and irreplaceable, the priceless object should have been a safe and secure display cabinet, Nancy …

Maybe Auntie Agatha shouldn’t have been so cavalier with her priceless treasures! 😁
Thanks for a golden oldie blast from the past! 🎶 🌏 💫

What a wonderfully witty tale—equal parts chaos, comedy, and priceless shock!
A chimera turning from “junk” to “treasure” made me grin from ear to ear.
Aunt Agatha’s fury felt so vivid I could almost hear the shatter echo.
Amazing how objects hold value not in sight, but in story and sentiment.
Loved every word—this one day truly became unforgettable!

That is what I fear once I’m gone…that anything I do have worth anything will be tossed. I guess I won’t care once I’m gone.

So many priceless antiques that are still in one piece, … so I think when something is broken, it was meant to be, Nancy, … so there!! Aunt Agatha, …😉…💙

Well, if you want my opinion, she shouldn’t have had that thing on display. Serves her right!

Jade is a fine, exciting stone that doesn’t necessarily conform to Western beauty standards. But once you’ve discovered its beauty, a vast world opens up. (This one is rather on the lower end, so in that sense you weren’t entirely wrong.) All the best, Nancy!

Thank you for a very informative comment, Fred. Unlike the character in my story, I happen to love the look and feel of jade. All the best to you as well.
