Two Tables

Today at RDP, bushboy asks us to get
creative with the word ‘feast’. Thanks, Brian!
Here’s where the prompt word took me.

Behind bright windows, candles glow
where tables groan with plenty’s feast
while just outside the warmth they know
Hunger growls like a beast

The distance measured door to street
is inches wide, yet worlds apart
where some have all they’ll ever eat
and some have just a hungry heart.

What separates the full from bare?
Not merit, not some cosmic plan
just fortune’s spin, chance’s unfair
divide between each human span.
