Written for Sadje’s “What Do You See” #315
Here’s where the photo prompt took me.

In robes of shadow, still he stands,
A prayer of silence in these lands,
Where ancient walls curve overhead
From palest cream to cinnamon red.
The desert carved this temple hall,
Where light cascades down every wall,
A thousand years of wind and time
Have sculpted stone to the sublime.
He is but dust, a fleeting form,
Against the wave that will not storm,
A breath of black in amber glow,
Where earth reveals in depths below.
The light descends in layered flame,
Each ripple speaks the ancient’s name,
While at the center, robed and small,
He stands witness to it all.
What thoughts beneath that cowl reside?
What draws a soul to step inside
This womb of stone, this sacred sweep,
Where silence runs cathedral-deep?

So well crafted, Nancy! Loved your dramatic lines, and paired well with the music.

I like what you saw, Nancy.
Nice to read what I consider to be a ‘proper’ poem rather than one of those fancy ones – ie, one that rhymes! Great track too, it had me head banging!

Thanks, dear Ivor. This would’ve been an excellent song for me to use for the upcoming Song Lyric Sunday as one of the prompt words is ‘river’.
