RETURN! Here’s my contribution.

For this week’s Thursday Inspiration prompt, Jim Adams asks us to respond to the challenge by using the prompt word ‘hurt’, referring to the song “All Out Of Love” by Air Supply or another one of their songs, or another song that is about a man who has lost his lover due to his own mistakes and is now desperately pleading for her return, or by anything else we feel fits.

As it happens, Martha Kennedy at RDP FRIDAY! RETURN! is on the same track asking us to be creative with the word ‘return’.

Here’s my contribution to Thursday Inspiration and RDP FRIDAY … my poem called “Plain and Simple”.

The silence is a heavy coat,
one I chose to wear.
Pride, a stupid button,
I wouldn’t unfasten.

I was wrong.
Plain and simple.
Bitter taste in my mouth,
like unshed tears.

Come back.
This house is just walls
without your laughter,
your light.

Come back,
and I’ll be better.
I promise,
a different man,
the one you deserve.

If you’ll just return to me.

Please.

    1. There are so many ‘repeat offenders’ out there, Debbie. Whether they mean what they say or not, they show their true colors eventually. It’s got to be so difficult for the other people in their lives.

      The Equals’ song is such a good one and I forgot all about it but my song by Player fits my poem better.

    1. Thank you, dear Ivor. That is such a deep, heavy song by The Master; it’s a real beauty. And he’s right about Clinton Street; that’s where my organ teacher lived and we students visited his apartment many times. Have you ever noticed how the chorus in this song and Leo Sayer’s “When I Need You” are practically the same note for note? 🎵 ♡ 🎶

      FYI Funny outcome re my SIL and her driveway plants. She sent the town a pile of literature on indigenous plants, Evening Primrose in particular, copies of literature from her lecture series, info on bees, butterflies and birds …. and she never heard back from them! They probably couldn’t handle the logic …. or the paperwork! lol! That’s bureaucracy for you!

        1. Lisa, there’s been no harassing from them since she sent the pile of info. No fines and it looks like she gets to keep the garden. We think they’ve given up; the 30 days is over and she’s heard nothing from them. I don’t think she anticipated this outcome but she’s quite happy with it. Thanks for your interest.

  12. I loved your poem and the song that you selected, Nancy. Begging for the girl who has left you to come back just prolongs the breakup, creating a power imbalance, and this will most likely lead to regret later on. It works in a song, but usually there is a good reason that the girl has left, and it that doesn’t get fixed, then the relationship is doomed to fail. Thanks for joining in again and it was nice to hear this song.

    1. My great pleasure, Jim. I feel sorry for the women who fall for this over and over. There comes a time when you have to open your eyes and dump the chump. Sure, couples argue and split up but watch out for repeat offenders, ladies; there’s no hope for that relationship or a loser like that. Thanks for a great comment and inspiration, Jim.
