Written for dVerse Poets Quadrille #230 –
“Let’s Kick Up A Rumpus!” Our host Kim
invites us to write a poem in exactly 44
words, one of which must be the word
“rumpus”. What fun! Here’s my quadrille.

Three bulldogs, short and stout,
Heading to the yard, no doubt!
A trampoline, big and round,
Bouncing was soon to be found.
A rumpus loud, a joyful bark,
Bulldogs bounding; what a lark!
Short legs flying, ears a-flap,
Hear those doggies going yappity yap!

Can you foster a doggie? Depending on your local fostering agency, some will supply all food and cover medical expenses. Knowing how much you and the kiddos loved and miss your girl, it might be worthwhile looking into. Good luck!

Nancy, this one feels so playful to me—your “short legs flying, ears a-flap” paints such a fun picture of those bulldogs in full rumpus mode 🐾

Thanks, Lisa! I like to do that little switcheroo with song titles whenever I can; it keeps things fun! I’m glad you enjoyed my poem today.

Such a fun poem, plus you found the perfect image and song (not the obvious one of your title) to go with it! 😀🐾🐾

Thanks so much, Debbie; that’s a fun thing I like to do whenever possible …. use one song name as the title for my story and another song to actually accompany the story.

What fun! I was just watching an episode of The Osbourne’s yesterday where they had three bulldogs! Plus their usual menagerie! Your image looks like it could be them! hehehe

I love bulldogs! They crack me up and always look like they should be chomping on cigars. Ha ha ha!

A fun poem, and you chose a much better song than your title suggested!

You know how I like to confuse people with my titles, Clive! 🤣 It’s the little things that bring me so much pleasure! 😂 Thank you.

One of your endearing little traits! But you chose by far the better song 👍

I enjoyed your joyful quadrille Nancy, and had fun imagining three bulldogs on a trampoline with their ‘short legs flying, ears a-flap! I remember that John Lewis advert. Thanks for joining us.

Thanks for leaving such a wonderful comment, Kim. With a word like ‘rumpus’, how could the end result be anything but fun? This was a great prompt and I enjoy participating whenever I can. I’m glad you enjoyed my quadrille today.

I know the name of my poem was misleading, Sis; that is something I do fairly often and have a lot of fun confusing people with it! It’s good to hear that fun song by the Baha Men and especially seeing this incredibly adorable and heartwarming advert. I think I’ve only seen it once before and had forgotten about it; it’s perfect! Thanks for the reminder. 🤎🐶🤎
