Written for American Style Cinquain.
Our inspiration is “fierce”.
This is my Cinquain.

Air thick
Summer stillness
Wilting even shadows
Wet velvet blanket pressing down
Fierce heat

Striking imagery, Nancy and your image resembles my current window view. 🌤️

Most of the words of this cinquain were actual parts of a conversation between me and my hubby. It worked out well. Thanks very much, Michele! 🌞🥵😎

Love the poem and yep, sounds about right. It’s pretty hot here too. I have some work to do outside tomorrow afternoon, so I hope it’s better by then.

Thanks so much, David!
We’re expecting 100º for the next couple of days. I hope this is just a fluke and not a prediction for the rest of summer. Good luck to you, wherever you are.

The “wet velvet blanket” pressing down describes the suffocating heat!

Thanks so much, Lisa!
Yesterday morning I stepped outside onto our deck; our crazy cat wanted to go out. When I came back in my husband asked “How is it out there?” My reply was that it felt suffocating, like being covered by a “wet velvet blanket”. I had a feeling that phrase would come in handy!

That’s it exactly…melt down into dark soil & find the fragrant cool, tho’. It’s there…

I love the line ‘wilting even shadows’ – so powerful and makes us feel the heat.

The heat this past weekend and into this week is the kind that makes us want to do nothing except complain about how hot it is and make extreme statements!
Thanks so much, Esther.

We had to go out this morning for an appointment. I parked the car in the shade and when we came back out, I checked the thermometer. It said 92ºF. It was 11AM.

I went for a walk at lunch (yeah, I’m stupid). The temp is at 95ºF BUT the humidex brings it to 117ºF… FFS.

I’m stuck here for winter until the end of August then I go to Canada (Vancouver Island)for 3 glorious weeks … oh, I visited New York in late April of 2019 and then went Philadelphia for 4 weeks and stayed with my Philadelphia cousins … that was a dream come true trip, now I’ll flying away to Canada for my “second” dream come true ✈️😍🌏

Thanks very much, Penn. It’s all that and more …. the kind of heat that sets off tempers and gets people acting like mad dogs.
Happy singing! 🎶
