Weird Al Wednesday – 6.18.25

Hey! Welcome back to Weird Al Wednesday
featuring the comedic genius of Al Yankovic.
After 6 months of wild and wacky weirdness,
it’s time to pack up the old accordion and say
“Do widzenia, dziwaki!”
(“Goodbye, weirdos!”)
Next week will be my final Weird Al Wednesday.
Thanks for making this so much fun for me!

“Hey, Al! It’s our penultimate post. Whaddya say?”

“Party in the CIA” by Weird Al, about a CIA operative, parodies Miley Cyrus’ 2009 single, “Party in the U.S.A.”, turning it into a covert operations party. Al knew from the first time he heard Cyrus’ song played on the radio that it had potential to be lampooned. After being in the business for this long, Al can readily spot a song that’s good for him to have fun with. “Party in the U.S.A.” is a typical bubblegum track; it’s fluffy and bright, a good summer song, whereas Al’s is a bit dark, twisted, and weird … exactly what you’d expect from him. “Party in the U.S.A.” received widespread acclaim from music critics, many of whom praised its catchiness and Cyrus’ vocals. In the US, the song charted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Party in the CIA” is from Al’s 13th studio album, Alpocalypse, which debuted in 2011 at #9 on the Billboard 200, the highest position of Al’s career.

LYRICS

I hopped off the plane at LAX
With a dream and my cardigan
Welcome to the land of fame excess (whoa)
Am I gonna fit in?
Jumped in the cab, here I am for the first time
Look to my right, and I see the Hollywood sign
This is all so crazy
Everybody seems so famous

My tummy’s turnin’ and I’m feelin’ kinda homesick
Too much pressure and I’m nervous
That’s when the taxi man turned on the radio
And a Jay-Z song was on
And a Jay-Z song was on
And a Jay-Z song was on

So I put my hands up
They’re playin’ my song, the butterflies fly away
I’m noddin’ my head like, yeah
Movin’ my hips like, yeah
I got my hands up, they’re playin’ my song
They know I’m gonna be okay
Yeah, it’s a party in the U.S.A.
Yeah, it’s a party in the U.S.A.

Get to the club in my taxi cab
Everybody’s looking at me now
Like, “Who’s that chick that’s rockin’ kicks?
She gotta be from out of town”
So hard with my girls not around me
It’s definitely not a Nashville party
‘Cause all I see are stilettos
I guess I never got the memo

My tummy’s turnin’ and I’m feelin’ kinda homesick
Too much pressure and I’m nervous
That’s when the DJ dropped my favorite tune
And a Britney song was on
And a Britney song was on
And a Britney song was on

So I put my hands up
They’re playin’ my song, the butterflies fly away
I’m noddin’ my head like, yeah
Movin’ my hips like, yeah
I got my hands up, they’re playin’ my song
They know I’m gonna be okay
Yeah, it’s a party in the U.S.A.
Yeah, it’s a party in the U.S.A.

Feel like hoppin’ on a flight (on a flight)
Back to my hometown tonight (town tonight)
Something stops me every time (every time)
The DJ plays my song and I feel alright

So I put my hands up
They’re playin’ my song, the butterflies fly away
I’m noddin’ my head like, yeah (noddin’ my head)
Movin’ my hips like, yeah (ooh, yeah)
I got my hands up, they’re playin’ my song
They know I’m gonna be okay (gonna be okay)
Yeah, it’s a party in the U.S.A.
Yeah, it’s a party in the U.S.A.

So I put my hands up
They’re playin’ my song, the butterflies fly away (flying away)
I’m noddin’ my head like, yeah (noddin’ my head like, yeah)
Movin’ my hips like, yeah (movin’ my hips like, yeah)
I got my hands up, they’re playin’ my song
They know I’m gonna be okay (I’m gonna be okay)
Yeah, it’s a party in the U.S.A.
Yeah (ha-ha-ha-ha), it’s a party in the U.S.A.

And this is “Party In The CIA” by Weird Al Yankovic

LYRICS

I moved out to Langley recently
With a plain and simple dream
Wanna infiltrate some third-world place
And topple their regime

Those men in black with their matching suitcases
Where everything’s on a need-to-know basis
Agents got that swagger
And everyone so cloak and dagger

I’m feeling nervous but I’m really kinda wishing
For another undercover mission
That’s when the red alert came on the radio
And I put my earpiece on
Got my dark sunglasses on
And I had my weapon drawn

So I get my handcuffs, my cyanide pills
My classified dossier
Tapping the phones like, yeah
Shredding the files like, yeah

I memorized all the enemy spies
I’ve got to neutralize today
Yeah, it’s a party in the CIA
Yeah, it’s a party in the CIA

I’ve done a couple of crazy things
That have almost gotten me dismissed
Like terminate some head of state
Who wasn’t even on my list

Burn that microfilm, buddy, will you?
I’d tell you why but then I’d have to kill you
You need a quickie confession?
Well, start a water boarding session

No hurry on this South American dictator
I’ll assassinate him later
That’s when he walked right in my laser sights
And my silencer was on
And my silencer was on
And another target’s gone

Yeah, we’ve got black ops all over the world
From Kazakhstan to Bombay
Paying the bribes like, yeah
Plugging the leaks like, yeah

Interrogating the scum of the earth
We’ll break them by the break of day
Yeah, it’s a party in the CIA
Yeah, it’s a party in the CIA

Need a country destabilized?
Look no further, we’re your guys
We’ve got snazzy suits and ties
And a better dental plan than the FBI’s

Better put your hands up and get in the van
Or else you’ll get blown away
Staging a coup like, yeah
Brainwashing moles like, yeah

We only torture the folks we don’t like
You’re probably gonna okay
Yeah, it’s a party in the CIA
Yeah, it’s a party in the CIA

Thanks to all my weirdly wonderful Weird Al Weirdos for joining me this week as we celebrate the weirdness that is Weird Al Yankovic.

That’s all she wrote, kids. See you on the flip side. 😎

  1. This was a really good one. I had seen it before, and I also like the Miley Cyrus video and song, too.

Aww, sad the Weird Al Wednesday is going to stop, but I sure have enjoyed your choices over this time. 🙂

      1. That’s great. I can definitely say I don’t know the majority of songs I feature in my posts. I think discovering new songs and new artists is a big part of what makes blogging about music so rewarding – apart from being a nice escape hatch from the craziness daily life can throw at you! 🙂

  2. Al’s definitely at his bestest in this one, Nancy … but I can’t dance along with his ‘party’ song, its 11.30 pm here, I’m super tired and about to fall asleep on my sticky keyboard …

      1. Not quite … Microsoft, the the most inopportune time, shuts down my computer for an “Error” … it happens 2 or 3 times a night… it’s frustrating and tiring for me … 😎🤗🌏

              1. I’ve been out in the garden today, away my computer … putting up a couple of hanging baskets near Theo, to give him some colourful company during his winter ordeal 🪴😍🌏😊

    1. Al likes to keep his politics in the middle of the road so as not to tick off any of his fans. No dummy, he! This is rare one for him.

Thank you, dear Keith. Have no fear; these posts will stay up for as long as I keep my account active; stop by anytime. Enjoy your travels!

  3. A new one for me, and I love this. I’m surprised it hasn’t been banned by Trump for giving away state secrets! The original had its attractions but I much prefer the parody.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re bringing these to a close, as I’ve really enjoyed the whole series.

    1. It’s new for me, too, Clive. I was very surprised by this one; Al’s songs and videos, while extremely clever, are never of a serious or political nature. He deliberately keeps his politics middle of the road as he wants all his fans to be happy with him. Makes sense career-wise to keep his leanings to himself.

It’s just time, Clive. While Al has done a ton of songs, they haven’t all been made into videos. I tried to choose the best of his videos that are also parodies. There are some original songs, a lot of polkas and quite a few static audios. Al is known for his parodies and I’m sure that’s all my readers are interested in seeing. When I started running out of suitable material, that’s when I knew it was time to pack it in.

      1. I guess he thought that was sufficiently neutral to be safe.

As they say, “quit while you’re ahead.” Can’t say I blame you, but thanks for all the fun 😊
