Fly Away: An Ovi

Written for Ovi Poetry Challenge #99.
This week’s inspiration word is
“flight”. Keeping with the year’s
theme of positivity, this is my Ovi.

Under skies where wings ascend
Flights of dreams that never bend
A journey where the spirits blend
Graceful in an arc

In realms where the heart’s whispers soar
A dance unfolds on time’s vast shore
Each breeze a kiss forevermore
Guiding souls to love

A beacon gleams with warming light
Illuminates with pure delight
Through clouds the spirit takes its flight
Lustrous stars embrace

  6. I’ve never heard of the Ovi form before so this was new to me. I liked your poem, especially the second stanza. I don’t know if you write music, but these words have a nice flow and they might make a good song.

    Hopefully this isn’t sacrilegious or anything but Dean Martin > Domenico Modugno.

    1. Thanks for a very lovely comment, Fishman! Yes, I’ve written music …. let’s put it that way. I’m not actively writing music now but I used to write for the band I belonged to ages ago as well as the two church choirs I directed …. nothing epic, mind you …. just some arrangements, especially for the children’s choir. I’ll have to take another look at that 2nd verse!

      I almost went with Dean Martin’s version but his was audio only whereas Modugno’s had a more pleasant background.

        1. Even if you don’t end up writing music, I think getting a keyboard is an excellent idea. Anything that keeps our minds active is good. There are probably keyboard apps you might want to check out as well. And you might also want to think about recording whatever tunes you create, whether it’s via a built-in recorder on the keyboard, your phone or some other device. Whatever you do, have fun! 🎶
