Written for OLWG #411.
The prompts are shown below.
This is my take.

She sat in the darkened bedroom of their cheap basement apartment on the sleazy New York/Canadian border, the garish flickering neon light of the strip joint in the alley a constant reminder of what a shithole this place really was.
Too many wasted years; it was long-overdue to get the hell out of here and this farce of a relationship. She knew he was slime when they first hooked up so no big surprise. She did, however, regret her lost youth and missed opportunities.
She fantasized about killing him, then faced the reality; he wasn’t worth the mess or the trouble. But carving up the Walmart makeup-spackled face of his latest whore might get his attention.
She’d think about it but not for long.

Here are the prompts: 1) due North; 2) just in case you missed it; 3) the name of another man’s wife. We can use one or two; we can use three or none at all. We just need to be creative.

Miranda Lambert, I haven’t thought about her in a long while. Back in the late 90s before she made it big, she would perform at Love And War In Texas, a cool western type restaurant in Plano, Texas. I figured she would one day make it big time because she sang good and was as bat-shit crazy then as she is now. Some poor guy sitting at a table near the stage made a comment she didn’t like and she threw a full beer in a glass mug at him. Knocked him right on the floor and his poor wife got a beer bath. At least it was Shiner Bock, a good Texas beer.

Excellent story, Phil! From what I know about Miranda, she’s one high-spirited gal who doesn’t take kindly to being pushed around and will stand up for herself against the best of them. Good for her! I admire a strong-willed woman like that and I hope she’s found happiness in life after that debacle of a marriage to Blake Shelton. Regardless of what anyone may think of her, she’s a talented woman with one hell of a voice. In addition, she and her mother are animal rights activists and founded an organization called MuttNation which is a donation-funded nonprofit animal rescue. They’re doing great work. I’m a fan.

Didn’t know about the organization, so that’s good work. Yeah that Shelton thing was a bad deal. Musicians shouldn’t marry within the biz.

Yes, so do I.
Miranda Lambert and Steve Earle are good together, aren’t they?

They are. It would be good if they collaborated again.

Your first sentence was a real mouthful as it spoke volumes to me. Great story, Nancy and I loved the duet.

It was my hope that the first sentence would set the stage, Jim. You’ve reassured me that it did. Thanks very much; I’m pleased to know you liked the song, too.

Sometimes the life we choose demands choices that no one wants to have to make. Nicely written. Great read.

There is something about those bad boys though. She knew who he was and wanted him anyway. And now she’s ready to catch a charge to punish, who? Not that I personally would know anything about this of course…. hehehe

Is this a rhetorical question? Haha! I don’t think she cares who pays, but in her mind, someone should, ya know.

Nice comment, Ernie! That was definitely one of my objectives here. Life can be bleak for some.

“Thin Line Between Love and Hate” is the title of a 1971 song by the New York City-based R&B vocal group The Persuaders. The song was written and produced by the Poindexter brothers, Robert and Richard, and was also co-written by Robert’s wife, Jackie Members….that’s the famous version but I prefer Annie’s version 💜😍

Thanks for that info, Willow. Annie never disappoints!

Ooh, baby girl is regretting 🥲 She should just wash herself clean and return to the shopping mall as early as 4am. Sadly though, wasted youth can never be recovered. And some partners are just so psychopathic you can’t allow them to eat your life away forever like rust.

Her need to hurt may outweigh her need to just get out. Whatever her decision, I think it will be sudden. Thank you, Lamittan.

That would be ideal, if she can get beyond her need to hurt someone. Thank you, cara.
