I’m OK, You’re OK

Written for Jim’s Thursday Inspiration #27
‘Daddy, Where Did I Come From?’
Our inspiration is ‘green’. Here’s my spin on things.

This week in Thursday Inspiration, Jim Adams has asked us to respond to his challenge by either using the prompt word green, or going with the above picture, by means of The Nice song ‘Daddy, Where Did I Come From?’…. an amusing song  about explaining the facts of life …. or by going with another song by The Nice, or any other song that discusses the nature of life, or go with anything else that you think fits.

I have chosen to feature the song (“It’s Not Easy) Being Green” made popular by Kermit the Frog. This beloved song was written in 1970 by Joe Raposo for the first season of Sesame Street, and has since become an American standard. In the song, Kermit expresses his ambivalence about his color, noting that green “blends in with so many other ordinary things” and wishing that he were some other color instead. During the bridge, Kermit realizes that there are some powerful associations with the color – “green can be big, like a mountain, or important, like a river, or tall like a tree.” In the end, he decides that he’s happy to be green – “it’s beautiful, and I think it’s what I want to be.” This is a wonderful song about knowing who you are, realizing your own worth and dignity, and becoming more content and comfortable within yourself. And it’s not just for kids anymore!

This is (“It’s Not Easy) Being Green

LYRICS

It’s not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold-
or something much more colorful like that.
It’s not that easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things.
And people tend to pass you over ’cause you’re not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water or stars in the sky.
But green’s the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like an ocean, or important like a mountain, or tall like a tree.
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why wonder?
I am green and it’ll do fine, it’s beautiful!
And I think it’s what I want to be.

      1. Hahah! Right? If they don’t we don’t want to have anything to do with them!

I just realised our titles are kinda similar for two different challenges and I used Kermit for the inLinkz!

    1. So did my sons, Christian, and countless other children around the world. It continues to be a fantastic show. A little bit of irony …. now years later, my eldest son’s job as a cameraman/TelePrompter has taken him to Sesame Street numerous times. Thanks for sharing your thoughts today.
