This week at Glyn Wilton’s Mixed Music Bag,
he’s asking us to write about a song in which
the title or a line mentions the current month.
Here’s my featured February artists and their song.

The rock band Beach Bunny formed in 2015 in Chicago, Illinois. Initially a solo project (bedroom band*) by guitarist and vocalist Lili Trifilio, Beach Bunny became a full band in 2017. The group achieved widespread popularity after their 2018 video “Prom Queen” went viral in late 2019.
“February” is the first song on Beach Bunny’s third EP, Crybaby. This 2017 song is about the love for a boy that lasts longer than the relationship. With talk of construction paper hearts, it is clear that this couple didn’t last til Valentine’s Day, but singer and lyricist Trifilio was still thinking about this guy and daydreaming about what could have been.
This is “February” by Beach Bunny
LYRICS
Strawberry ice cream, I saw this day
You melt away through the cracks in my fingers
I know that sunburn goes away
The broken words I last heard still linger
Maybe by Monday I’ll be okay
Any day’s better than February
Sometimes I wonder how life would be
Any day’s better than February
But if you called and you asked me to stay
Would you give me the world or walk out in a day?
Because I’m so afraid that if I let you in
When the going gets rough will you leave me again? Like February
Summer’s gone, seasons change
He’s got a heart of construction paper
All of his problems buried away
Inside the sleeve of a green windbreaker
Maybe by Monday I’ll be okay
Any day’s better than February
Sometimes I wonder how life would be
Any day’s better than February
But if you called and you asked me to stay
Would you give me the world or walk out in a day?
Because I’m so afraid that if I let you in
When the going gets rough will you leave me again? Like February
Any day’s better than the day you left me
Try to forget you but he never lets me
Any day’s better than the day you left me
Try to forget you but he never lets me
Maybe by Monday I’ll be okay
Any day’s better than, any day’s better than
Sometimes I wonder how life would be
If you had stayed for February

You’re right about that, Cindy; even though February is my birthday month, it’s not my favorite at all! I’m glad you enjoyed this new tune.

I like the song! It reminds me of a sad story, my neighbor (33 yo male) was dating a cute girl for over a year, her birthday is on Valentines Day, he broke up with her in a text message 3 days before the big day! Ugh.

Valentine’s Day is not a great day for a lot of people. A friend of mine was engaged to a guy who had gone to seminary. He broke up with her on Valentine’s Day saying he decided to become a priest! Thanks Tiffany!

Yes, some of the months are going to be difficult trying to find a song that fits

That’s the name of the game! It may take a little research but that’s the fun of a challenge.

Nice! And yes, new to me, too. Wondering if she’d had the entire(short) month instead of a single day, would she have had time to learn he was not meant to be more than that? Would she be over him & really discovering the him she’s currently hanging with?

Who knows! If the end result is the same, I think I’d rather it be over sooner than later.

Good tune. Now, that’s a name for a band. Going back to the 60s, when I was a surfer dude, we called the girls on towels lathered up with Criso oil, Beach bunnies. They didn’t surf, but had a great crispy tan. My wife, Momo was one for a while, but then she tried surfing and became a Gidget. You find some strange music and bands, nice work.

Hey, this blogging stuff is a demanding gig! I can’t let my peeps down and sometimes I get lucky!
I well remember the days of dousing myself with iodine-infused baby oil, then lying in the sun for hours…..with a giant reflector. The things we did back then and lived to talk about. And kids today think we’re just old farts! Little bastards!
Thanks a lot, Phil. I appreciate your comments.
