Did you ever have a friend,
one who’s faithful till the end
and who’s love will never bend?
You’re very lucky.

How about a friend who’s true,
one who wants to be with you
and could never make you blue?
What could be better?

Is your friend the active kind,
one with long walks on their mind
and hunts around for things to find?
Now that’s fun!

Does your friendship come without strings,
one that’s full of special things
and daily joy to your life brings?
You are rich.

Does your friend warm your feet at night,
tug your blanket with all its might
and wrestle you in playful fight?
That’s a real pal.

Does your friend have a heart of gold,
one that’s strong and pure and bold
and will never change or grow cold?
You can’t ask for more.

Were your answers a solid “Yes”,
ones you didn’t have to guess?
Then your friend is the very best!
Go hug your dog!

  1. awww such sweetness in your words, Nancy. I love it and thanks for your sweet comment. I ended up being sick in the middle of the the night and quickly turned them off. I truly appreciate it. It’s going to be a long haul and month but one step at a time, I’ll get through. it! 💗

  2. A sweet surprise at the end! You’re so good and full of them. 😊 Made me emotional, thinking of my dear friend, Patricia. Friends since we were seven and our bond is only getting stronger. 💕🙏🏻

    1. In the words of Sir Mick: We all need someone we can lean on.

Friendship is essential in life. I have many people in my life but only a small group of dear friends, some I’ve met here on WordPress. My dearest friend of 40 years is my next door neighbor. We are like sisters, even have a strong physical resemblance, and I love her. I’m thrilled to know you have a strong friendship like that as well. 🥰 🫂

  3. I think it’s safe to assume we all have folks we call friends, which is very different from having a true friend. The latter is priceless! And, wow, are these all your puppies? They are adorable! 🙂

When it comes to four-legged friends, dogs are the best choice I can think of. We’ve had three dogs over the past 20 years or so, two Yorkies and one Silkie (yes, my dear wife likes them small). While they each had their different characters, they all were constantly by our side. One literally would have given her life to defend us.

She once jumped on another dog that could have had her for dinner, since she felt that dog presented a threat. When that happened, the big dog remained motionless and seemed to be pretty confused about that tiny Yorkie jumping on her back! 🙂

Last but not least, I don’t think I had heard that Cat Stevens song before. When I saw your post’s title, my first thought was Neil Young, one of my all-time favorite artists! 🙂

    1. Thanks for sharing that info about your dogs, Christian. My husband and I love dogs but we are true cat people at heart. We have always had cats throughout our 53 yr marriage. Our sons, however, have dogs AND cats; their in-law also have dogs so we have easy access to dogs every time we get together with someone in our immediate family. Dogs make the best friends. We often talk about adopting a dog but at this ‘settled’ point in our lives, neither of us wants that responsibility. I won’t adopt a pet knowing I have reservations about being able to care for it. So, in answer to your question, no …. those are not our puppies. The photos were taken when my son, his wife and their little daughter visited the Golden Dog Farm while vacationing in Vermont. The Golden Dog Farm breeds golden retrievers for people who want a beautiful pure bred golden. My son said it’s an amazing place.

Re my musical choice …. As much as I love Neil Young and his song “Heart of Gold” (which I thought about featuring today), there was no way I could pass up a song by Cat Stevens singing about his love for his dog. I’m always happy to introduce new music to my readers.

Have a great day. Thanks for your comments.

      1. Thanks, Nancy. And, holy macro, 53 years of marriage? Congrats!

My wife and I are coming up on our 29th wedding anniversary. I guess if we stay in good health and the planet will still exist, eventually, we may reach 50 or even 53. While time flies, these milestones still look very far away! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Ernie! Who can resist a pic of golden fluff balls? They are simply adorable and so lovable!
I had the pleasure of meeting Cat Stevens in 1973 at a party in the Hamptons. He’s as beautiful inside as he is outside. I’m never disappointed when I feature one of his songs.

Have a great MI day, Dawg! Woof Woof! 🐶
