Dance With Me: A Quadrille

Written for dVerse Poets Quadrille #215:
“Ready For Liftoff”
. Our host De Jackson,
aka WhimsyGizmo, invites us to “pen a
pithy poem of just 44 words, including
some semblance of the word LIFT”.
This is my quadrille.

“Dance with me, Daddy”
I giggle,
missing teeth
whistling.

I raise my arms,
he lifts me
up.

And we dance
through the years.

“Dance with me, Daddy”
I whisper in
his ear.

I twirl him
’round the
dancefloor.

And we smile
through our tears.

  1. Oh, man. Nancy, this is just perfect. It brought tears for me, both bittersweet and full of nostalgia and thankfulness (my own Daddy, 82, is still here). A beautiful piece. And that photo is everything.
