Short Story

Hell, Yeah!

Written for OLWG #400, our three prompts
for this week are shown below. This my story.

“Oh, honey! Just look at our adorable little boy. What do you think we should name him?”

“I’ve always wanted my son to have a strong name. Let’s call him ‘Rod’.”

“Are you serious? Why not just name him ‘Schlong’ and be done with it?”

“Well, that was a bit uncalled-for! Have any other ideas?”

“How about we go with a name from one of the classics? I’m thinking of ‘Puck”.

“Are you kidding me? I can hear the other boys now: “Hey! Puck off!”

“Hmmm, when you put it that way…… Ooh, here’s a name I’ve always liked: ‘Lucifer’! Whaddya think?”

“I think you’ve lost your mind! I’m outta here!”

Here are our three prompts: 1) men don’t protect you anymore; 2) both may be lovers of rhyme; 3) a name means a lot. We can use one, we can use three or maybe none at all. We just need to be creative.

This is “Sympathy For The Devil”  by the Stones

  1. So many comments surrounding your musical choice, which I love both that song and The Rolling Stones in general, that I had to revisit the write to remember what it was about!

Lovely take. I am taking bets they decided on something dutifully safe, like Robert or James. HaHa!

      1. I sometimes wonder if children weren’t wanted! I once worked with a lovely girl of Polish parents, Elzbieta Lastik. Known to us all as Miss E.Lastik – though none of us ever found out 😉

  2. I think the Stones took it too far with that tune. I liked them until that song. Jagger, the avowed atheist, not sure about the other boys, should have known better. I didn’t care for their music or them after that one. My rock band decided not to play any of their music. As far as the Devil is concerned, look no farther than the leadership in California and what they have created. Yeah, I’m an old guy and full of opinions and have lost all my social filters, but as John Prine said, that’s the way the world goes round.

    1. Rutt..Rowww. Momo and me still have a few of their albums from the 60s, so that makes me the old hypocriterer. I may have to hit my reset button and give old Mick another chance. Someone give that poor underfed man a cheeseburger. I’m penning a piece on the wildfires vs Biblical damnation. Stay tuned, it’s going to offend most everyone.
