Want To Watch A Movie?

Bill and I have agreed (for research purposes) to watch more movies with a holiday theme. This is our first one and, boy, it’s an oldie but a goodie …. a true classic with one of my favorite actors …. Jack Lemmon. It’s not exactly a holiday movie, but most of the drama unfolds during the Christmas season, which earns it a spot on my list. The Apartment, which won five Oscars (including Best Picture), follows a lonely insurance worker named C.C. Baxter (Lemmon). To climb up the corporate ladder, he starts to lend his Upper West Side apartment to company bosses who are having romantic affairs. However, things get complicated when Baxter learns that his own manager is hooking up with the woman he has feelings for. They don’t make them like this anymore. Here’s the trailer:

I’ll save you a seat. Enjoy the movie! 🎥 🍿 🥤

  1. We watched The Holiday last night and loved it. Charming, funny story. This is a winner, kids!

Thanks to Sue for the recommendation.

Oh BTW, our friend Willow says Red One, the new movie with The Rock, is “the Christmas film to beat all Christmas films!” Now that’s an endorsement!

  2. A fantastic movie, which I need to revisit. I think I’ll watch it again this afternoon.
I recently enjoyed listening to Kevin Spacey’s comments about Jack Lemmon who was his biggest mentor. His thoughts on the impact of the Apartment and how he used Lemmon’s character as a model for Lester Burnham were so intriguing.

    1. So glad to know you enjoy this movie as much as I do.

And Kevin Spacey … what a fine actor he is! American Beauty is a classic. I was aware of his admiration for Jack Lemmon as well as that of Bobby Darin. If you haven’t seen “Beyond the Sea”, I suggest you give it a go. Honestly, it’s not a great movie but Kevin Spacey is remarkable as Bobby Darin. Spacey did all the singing in the movie and his performance as Darin is impeccable. He saved this movie.

      1. Hola Nancy, I’m sorry I didn’t respond to you earlier. This festive season so far has been so eventful! I hope you are having a lovely Christmas so far with your family.
I haven’t seen ‘Beyond the Sea’, but I sure would like to see it; now that you mention it and your superlatives about Spacey’s performance as Darin. This type of movie would be right up my alley.

          1. Well, there’s two theories.
One, is that I am a mindreader. And yes, people do say that LOL
Two, great minds think alike! 😄
I’ll be honest, I also consider the Godfather 1 and 2 essential holiday watching too. More for me mostly because on holiday breaks it’s a good time to sit down and dig into them,

              1. I sometimes have a knack for saying something right before someone thinks it. I put it down to my incredible gift of timing lol
I was actually watching clips after I mentioned it 😄
                Such a fantastic film.

                    1. I’m delighted you enjoyed it.

There’s another I enjoyed called A Yorkshire Christmas. It’s set in Knaresborough which is one of my favourite little towns that I visit often and just twenty minutes from my home.

It’s cheesy, and I loved it. For some reason they have an English actress playing the American lead and what what sounds a new Zealander attempting to play a Yorkshire man.

Last week I watched It’s a Wonderful Life with James Stewart.

                    2. Another possibility! We all have our favorite go to holiday movies but it’s nice to add something new once in a while. I don’t mind for the actors are attempting different accents as long as they do them well! I shall put Yorkshire Christmas on my list. I know this will sound very un-Christmassy of me but I don’t particularly like It’s a Wonderful Life; maybe because it’s on so frequently during the season. Don’t tell anyone! 😊

      1. I’m with you Nancy. There’s nothing that is less Happy Christmas than Die Hard.
It’s time I started stacking up a few cheesy Christmas ones too. One of my favourites is The Holiday.

        1. Thank you, Sue! Rarely do I watch movies like Die Hard; I’m not much of a ‘shoot it out and blow them up’ kind gal but if I want to spend any time with my husband, I will occasionally watch! 😁

You know, I’ve never seen The Holiday. That’s with Cameron Diaz and Jude Law, right? Thanks for the suggestion; I will check it out.
