Christmas is two weeks away and I’m wondering what the hell happened to 2024! You too? It really shouldn’t come as a big surprise; it happens every year, if we’re lucky. Here it is, the middle of December; if we’re running around willy nilly with no idea what we’re going to do for the holidays, we really need to chill out. How? I’m so glad you asked!
What we need is a mega dose of holiday magic in the form of a great big musical chill pill. I love the holidays, especially these weeks leading up to Christmas, and a lot has to do with the music. It puts me in the right mood …. the baking, shopping, wrapping gifts, cooking, cleaning, decorating …. it will all get done with the help of some holiday music to settle my nerves and steer my spirits in the right direction.
It truly is a magical time of year. To help make this week festive (and hopefully relaxing) for you, I have put together some of our well-known and beloved holiday songs in a neat little package. I hope you enjoy these animated musical selections and come back to this page whenever you’re in the mood for some wonderful holiday music.
Whether you’re shopping online, wrapping gifts, baking goodies, or just admiring your decorations, these songs will keep you company and in the spirit. I think there’s a nice selection here and, just like your favorite holiday cookies, nobody can have just one! Enjoy the tunes and let the music help carry you through these last weeks of 2024.
Let’s begin today’s line-up with a real beauty:
“The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole
“Let It Snow” by Frank Sinatra
“Winter Wonderland” by Bing Crosby
“It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” by Dean Martin
“Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee
“It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” by Andy Williams
“Santa Baby” by Eartha Kitt
“Little Saint Nick” by the Beach Boys
“Sleigh Ride” by The Ronettes
I hope you enjoyed this fun selection of Christmas animation.
See you on the flip side. 😎

A lovely little song package! I’ve just broken out my lengthy Christmas playlist which includes some of the above!
Christmas officially starts for me the first time I hear Harold Darke’s wonderful choral setting of In the Bleak Midwinter.

Yes! There is another version of this gorgeous Christina Rossetti poem but my favorite is also Harold Darke’s. I sang this one many times in church choir; it’s a real beauty.
Thanks for the ear worm, Keith.

I love the way each verse has a completely different arrangement. Holst’s version is great for a sing-along!

Thank you for the holiday cheer, Nancy, and the invitation to return for more, which I’ve done. 🤶🏻🎶 🙏🏻

The main one missing, for me, is Silent Night by Mahalia Jackson. No one does it like her.

That was gorgeous, Dale! Thanks for sharing.
There’s a reason it’s not on my post today: I went with only popular Christmas songs and did not include any religious Christmas carols. 🎄🎅🏼

My bad. Christmas is not Christmas until I hear this one. Did you know this version? When she goes deep, deep, deep at the end, I get goosebumps.
But.. you didn’t include White Christmas either! 😉

No, I’ve heard Mahalia Jackson sing Silent Night many times; her voice is amazing …. a true gift.
You’re right …. I left out White Christmas. If I wanted to include all my favorite Christmas songs, I’d be here all day! I had to draw the line somewhere. Sorry ’bout that! ☃️

I would have been surprised if you hadn’t heard it!
And I get that!! I loved your list.

Good selection Nancy. I don’t know where the year’s gone. Seems it was only a few weeks ago I had my appendix out and that was on February!

Isn’t it funny, Di, how we now gauge the passing of time by the dates of surgeries, broken bones and/or the number of funerals per year? I would always laugh when my parents said “The older I get, the faster times goes by”. I’d ask myself how the passage of time could change and just chalk it up to another quaint phrase. Well, now I know and fully understand exactly what my parents meant …. and it sucks! 😂

Well, you certainly have picked some fantastic tunes! As a Dean Martin fan, I’m very happy to see the success of It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas. It is not a song that appeared on either one of his two Christmas albums. The audio from it was taken from a holiday Martin and Lewis radio show. It’s wonderful!

That’s a fabulous bit of information, Keith! Thanks for sharing it here.
It’s a wonderful song with it’s fun little key changes and happy notes skipping along. Dean sings it so beautifully! And, of course, who can’t help but smile at the words “and mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again“. An absolute classic!
Thanks for a great comment, Keith. Enjoy the holiday music!

Three iconic Christmas songs

Only three? I guess some wouldn’t open …. or maybe they’re just not iconic! 😂

Yes, you were right Nancy. One didn’t play and the other’s were good but not so iconic 🙂

The Ronettes song is going to be stuck inside of my head for the rest of the day, but it did put me in the Christmas spirit.

Oops! Sorry, Jim. I should have given you an ear worm alert!
I really prefer that song without lyrics but the Ronette’s version is so good, I had to include it.

Nobody, but NOBODY, beats Eartha Kitt. Best Catwoman of all time, ever! 🐅🐆🐈

Holy kitty litter, Batman! You got that right! 🐈⬛
And this version of HER song (originally recorded by Eartha in 1953) is the only one worth playing! 🎅🏼

So, when exactly did Parson Brown become a circus clown? Quite a change of career.

Excellent question! I asked myself the same thing and wondered if I should go with it but it was getting late and I said “Oh, what the hell!” 😂
Chalk it up to creative license!

A nice selection of standards, rather different from the versions I play! Some nice animations there too 🎅

Thanks, Clive. They gave me a smile …. more so than staring at a static audio or watching Dean Martin singing from a sofa with a drink in his hand. 😂

To be honest, with those types of song I think I prefer the animation anyway! I play a couple of these each year, but in rather different versions 😊

I might have to do a Bob Rivers segment. I have a cold (thanks, Colette!) and my brain doesn’t want to write stories right now. 🤧

It was three years ago and I haven’t reprised it, yet…
I know absolutely nothing about him, other than that one popping up in a YouTube recommendation 😊
