Written for Friday Fictioneers where our host Rochelle
asks us to use the photo below as inspiration
to write creatively in 100 words or less while
making every word count. Also in response to Gerry & Sue’s
Weekly Prompts Wednesday Challenge where the prompt word
this week is ‘frenzied’. This is my 100 word flash.

Let the Blitzkrieg begin! Those are not invading alien spaceships whooshing by in the pre-dawn hours of late November. No, they are the glaring headlights of caffeine-fueled, bargain-hunting, deal-crazed holiday shoppers zipping by on a highway near you, preparing for landing and bracing for impact as they descend on every shopping mall in the US of A! Today is Black Friday … the day we trample our fellow man in the rabid, frenzied pursuit of discounted Christmas gifts for the very people we dined with yesterday while giving thanks for having everything we could possibly want or need. Tis the season!

Nancy, you nailed it with the season. I shrink from it and admit I do most of it online now. First time hearing that song. Gave me a real chuckle.

Nice to know you enjoyed this one, Lisa. I haven’t gone Christmas shopping at a mall in more than 40 years and I don’t miss it.
There’s a whole series of those songs, all hilarious.
Thanks so much, Lisa!

You captured it perfectly! Also, I love that you still mail Christmas cards. I treasure my few straggler cards I get every year!

Thanks so much, Angela! I’m with you when it comes to Christmas cards! I was going through the cards we received last year and it’s sad how the number has dwindled. I’ll keep sending cards regardless; it makes me happy!

I’m glad it does. It’s such a wonderful tradition :). Hopefully this year I’ll get some sent!

I have no idea why that happens, Brenda. It’s frequent and rather annoying. Thanks for letting me know it was you.

I hate that Black Friday has crossed the border. It’s a lot of hype for nuthin’. You ever see that meme that shows the price two days before and the day of, the price boost the price, cross it out and put the same price as the two days previous? It so represents the ridiculousness of this whole thing.
As does your post. Perfect, bella!

Not going anywhere near a store today….I have enough leftovers for the duration.

We have no leftovers …. the perils of not hosting dinner! I’m roasting a small turkey today and I’ll start my day-after-Thanksgiving-tradition …. writing out my Christmas cards. I love this day of the year!

Love these little rituals! Today I’m creating my 2025 calendar with family photos that I hand out to everyone at Christmastime. I have a really good coupon to use…

Oh, I love those calendars! I created some last year and spent far too much time going through photos than I should have … but it was great fun!

This year, it will be very old family photos, grandparents, great grands, etc., just so the youngers can have these and all their names as well!

Nancy, I think your anonymous person could have been Gerry, forgetting to log in. It sounds very much like his words/style.
The last time I went shopping on Black Friday, it took me two hours to get out of the car park! Never again! Right now, there’s nothing I need online, either.
Thank you for joining in with the challenge.

Thanks for that bit of info, Sue. I think a lot of people either forget to log in or don’t see the notice while commenting. I get my fair share of Anonymous comments.
The whole concept of Black Friday holds no appeal for me. I’m not much of a shopper anyway and I don’t do well in crowds so it’s nothing I’d ever attempt. I’m very fond of my Christmas card tradition, thank you!
Always fun participating in your prompts, Sue.

Dear Nancy,
It seems that now that we have places like Amazon, the physical rush isn’t quite as bad. But then I haven’t been shopping outside my house on Black Friday in many moons.
Love your story. You certainly captured the “spirit” of it all.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Happy Thanksgiving, Rochelle!
I can honestly say I have never gone out shopping on Black Friday; the whole concept has no appeal. Today I’ll write out my Christmas cards and shop online. It will be a nice lazy day.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts; so glad to know you enjoyed my story!
Shalom

A frantic panic to get what you really don’t need. That’s my view of Black Friday.
You capture that mood well in your story.

That’s it exactly. It’s a ‘no’ for me!
Thanks, Anon! Appreciate your thoughts.

You got that right! I haven’t gone Christmas shopping in an actual store in more than 25 years and I don’t miss it one bit! I prefer to stay sane! 😁

Yes, it used to so crowded at that time of the year

I rather shop on amazon, their black Friday started last week! And I can shop from the comfort of my living room, no one gets trampled in the process!

I’m with you, CA! I’ve never gone shopping on Black Friday and I’m not about to start now. This is the day I traditionally start addressing my Christmas cards. Yes, I still send cards in the mail and I love it! 😊
