Let the Blitzkrieg begin! Those are not invading alien spaceships whooshing by in the pre-dawn hours of late November. No, they are the glaring headlights of caffeine-fueled, bargain-hunting, deal-crazed holiday shoppers zipping by on a highway near you, preparing for landing and bracing for impact as they descend on every shopping mall in the US of A! Today is Black Friday … the day we trample our fellow man in the rabid, frenzied pursuit of discounted Christmas gifts for the very people we dined with yesterday while giving thanks for having everything we could possibly want or need. Tis the season!

  6. I hate that Black Friday has crossed the border. It’s a lot of hype for nuthin’. You ever see that meme that shows the price two days before and the day of, the price boost the price, cross it out and put the same price as the two days previous? It so represents the ridiculousness of this whole thing.

      2. Nancy, I think your anonymous person could have been Gerry, forgetting to log in. It sounds very much like his words/style.

        The last time I went shopping on Black Friday, it took me two hours to get out of the car park! Never again! Right now, there’s nothing I need online, either.

        1. Thanks for that bit of info, Sue. I think a lot of people either forget to log in or don’t see the notice while commenting. I get my fair share of Anonymous comments.

          The whole concept of Black Friday holds no appeal for me. I’m not much of a shopper anyway and I don’t do well in crowds so it’s nothing I’d ever attempt. I’m very fond of my Christmas card tradition, thank you!

    It seems that now that we have places like Amazon, the physical rush isn’t quite as bad. But then I haven’t been shopping outside my house on Black Friday in many moons.

    Love your story. You certainly captured the “spirit” of it all.

      I can honestly say I have never gone out shopping on Black Friday; the whole concept has no appeal. Today I’ll write out my Christmas cards and shop online. It will be a nice lazy day.
