Written for Friday Fictioneers where our host Rochelle
has asked us to use the image below as inspiration
to get creative in 100 words or less, making
every word count. Here’s my flash.

“Hey, Dad, is it true that music is still banned in some countries?”
“I’m afraid it’s true, Bobby. Some countries still restrict what people listen to and the type of music they create.”
“Jeepers, Dad! What about the First Amendment?”
“Most countries have some form of freedom of speech, Bobby, but the degree to which it‘s upheld varies. If you live in a free country, you can’t fathom what it’s like to be unable to openly listen to or create music.”
“Gosh, Dad! What can we do?”
“Vote, Bobby. Gotta keep those crazy sons-of-bitches out of the White House!”

“Vote, Bobby. Gotta keep those crazy sob out of the White House!” I’m not sure we were completely successful this time around. Maybe it’s been a while. But if Lee Greenwood and The Village People are our theme songs now, the music did die.

Well, Chuckster, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. The people have spoken. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

Dear Nancy,
Of course I had an earworm as soon as I read your title. And your story? YES! As Dale said, our mantra is “It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” Thank you, Mr. Thoreau. 😉
We went and voted at 0-Dark-30 this morning. Now praying. Thank you for the reminder and a great song. Of course I had to watch (and sing with) the entire video.
Shalom,
Rochelle

It’s a great American classic song isn’t it? The songs I attach to my stories are very important to me. It’s like picking out that final piece of jewelry when getting ready for a big night out. The wrong piece can make or break an outfit. It needs to be perfect.
I’m delighted to know you enjoyed my take on this prompt; it truly is in the eye of the beholder. It’s amazing to see how differently people interpret these images.
Our votes are in. Now we wait and pray.
Thanks for your gracious comments, Rochelle.
Shalom

Thanks, Liz! The collective will for hope …. I like that!

Such a great song. 🥧 It was a long mail in ballot, but research done and delivered a few days ago. ✔️

It’s a classic. No mail-ins here in NY but standing in line for 20 minutes on a warm October afternoon was a no brainer. Gotta get it done!

i’m with the protagonist 100%. unless we exercise our right to vote, the election would be stolen right before our eyes.

Sad but true, Destiny! ☹️
Sorry if it sounds like I’m on a soapbox;
truly trying to make light of a dreadful situation.
Thanks so much for your constant encouragement! 🩶

I love this take, Nancy. As Rochelle quotes: It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see. And I love that you saw a guitar!
Wonderful. And yes. No bitching if you don’t vote (which is what I tell my kids all the time).

Thanks, sis! I came, I saw, I wrote … all in under 5 minutes. What Rochelle says is absolute truth and how anyone can say it doesn’t fit the prompt bewilders me. We all write about what we see, not what is.
We voted yesterday. Now we wait and pray. I have no respect for non-voters; it’s your voice … use it, dammit!
Love your comments, Dale. Thanks!

I absolutely love when that happens. Took me about 5 minutes for mine, too. And sometimes the link to the photo is tenuous but hey… who cares?
Good for you, my friend. I know. I give shit to anyone who doesn’t vote. Sigh
Love that you love, Nancy!

Love the song, with all its craziness.
In Vermont, every registered voter is mailed a ballot and most folks I know have alrady voted, to help keep the crazies out.

It’s a great song.
We voted yesterday; only in line for 20 min so easy peasy. We did our civic duty! 😊 🇺🇸

Music is my first love, it will always be my last. Living without it is unimaginable.
I’m pleased I’m not the only one that saw that guitar on the beach!

Spot on. You and the rest of the world had four years of a lunatic in the White House, and we don’t need that criminal lunatic going round for a second time.

Thanks, Clive. I’m just a storyteller telling a story and trying to stay out of the political shitstorm. I voted and I’m at peace with my choice. Time will tell.

I voted and I’m at peace with my choice also. The question is whether or not America will be at peace with the election results after Tuesday and my fear is that won’t be the case.

It’s out of our hands, Fan. I know you’re a non-believer, and that’s cool, but God save us; all we can do now is pray and wait it all goes well.

Yes, I’m a non-believer, but if Trump comes out on top after all of this, it will be, as far as I’m concerned, just further evidence that there is no God.

It’s good to know you hold fast to your (non)beliefs, Fan. 😅
Hang tight. It won’t be long now.

Ah, music is the elixir to the soul, it soothes the mind.
Yep, got to keep crazies away from positions of power.

For sure, James. It’s said music soothes the savage breast and I agree.

Er… not sure how it relates to the prompt, but nice pitch for casting your vote.

Since we all see something different, Joy, I saw an electric guitar sticking out of the sand. We are, after all, prompted by our first impressions, are we not? The same could be said for every story submitted: how does it pertain to the prompt? Why do some people see aliens or ex-lovers or parents in this prompt? It’s all in the eye of the beholder.
Just doing my best to tell a story.

Thanks Shweta. It’s really not that far fetched, is it?

Absolutely not. It’s not at all far-fetched. We have to exercise our right to vote. As for how the results will turn out, sadly that’s not entirely in our hands.
