Like A Leaf On A Breeze: A Haibun

Written for d’Verse Haibun Monday 10.21.24 ~
Fall Foliage or Spring Blossoms. Here is my haibun.

Whether winter, spring, summer or fall, the view from my bedroom window has afforded me comfort and solace in times of physical and emotional struggle. The simple, unadorned panes of glass are a constant in my life, keeping me company, offering the best show in town. After all, what could be better than observing the changes brought about by Mother Nature? As the daily view gradually transforms, so do I. The delicate buds that caressed the tree branches in spring burst open full of life to face the summer sun; now they cling precariously to those same branches, a dainty necklace of copper, bronze and gold strands. More sky is visible through scantily clad tree limbs. Oh, what a tantalizing tease! The silvery glow from the hunter’s moon is an organic lightshow. What will tomorrow bring?

spring blossoms plant warm wet kisses
fall leaves crunch underfoot
winter flakes form crystal blankets

    1. Thanks so much, Mitch! It’s lovely to see you here. Somewhere, some how, I stopped getting notices of new posts from you. I meant to rectify that and should have done so when it was fresh in my mind but I didn’t. I’ll have to stop by and check out what going on with you.

  1. Lovely words, but as a fan of The Moody Blues since they started I have to offer a small correction. That song was sung by Justin Hayward for Jeff Wayne’s War Of The Worlds after Wayne said he wanted ā€˜the guy from Nights In White Satin to sing it.’ It has never been on a Moodies studio album but they did eventually include it in a big box set in 1994. Still a beautiful song though 😊

      1. Sorry if that sounded pedantic but I thought it worth putting the record straight. We had the War Of The Worlds – it was a double album with some good tracks. This is a lovely song however you hear it.

              1. I told you I was a pedant! It goes with my birth sign. I proof-read my daughter’s book and found a lot that she and her editor had missed, so I have the credentials 🤣

                  1. I’m the same. I write my two main posts, for Sunday and Tuesday, the day before, and even though I think they are complete I always find something on the final run through. I’m like that with comments too – I find that autocorrect changes things when I’m not looking 🤣
