Written for dVerse Poets Quadrille #207 Spin Cycle

Hold my hand, honey
and take me for a spin
Twirl me ‘round the dance floor
I’m loving the spin I’m in
Whisper those sweet nothings, baby
send shivers up my spine
and make my head spin, lover
tonight I’m gonna make you mine

This is wonderful, Nancy! I love the spin you’ve taken. 🩷👏
By some of the comments I’ve read, have you been unwell? Sending you my best healing wishes. 🤗

Thank you, Lesley. The fun Louis & Keely are having is contagious!
Not unwell, exactly. I had spinal fusion surgery on Aug 22 and recovery is very painful. I’m now in the second-guessing phase but there’s no going back (no pun intended). Thanks for asking. ♡

Gosh, Nancy! I’m sure that ain’t funny. Look after yourself. Leave off the gallivanting and partying on the ceiling for a bit. 💕 🤗

I was listening out for a tune even as I read this poem, Nancy, for it deserves to be a song…

What an incredibly kind and lovely comment! Thank you very much. I am a storyteller and never truly considered myself a poet; however, at times the spirit moves me. How very nice to be acknowledged in this way! 😊

Louis and Keely! I love their stuff so much.

They were quite a pair, weren’t they? Keely’s jump from one octave to another is effortless and seamless. They are each other’s perfect foil.

Nancy, I love being dizzy with desire, especially set to music and out on the dance floor. Ah, the good ol’ days!

You’ll be back in the swing ofthings, spinning around, before too long. In the meantime, close your eyes and imagine. It’s therapeutic! 👯♀️👍🕺💃🐧

Promise? I really need something to hold on to and wearing a bubble dress like Keely Smith seems like a good place to start. Thanks, my friend!

In a spin, loving the spin I’m in! Who writes lyrics like that anymore?
Thanks, darlin! Mwah mwah!! 💋

I know I had that record …. a long time ago. Probably on a 78. Like your poem and the memories it brings.

My parents, especially my Dad, loved Louis Prima and Keely Smith. Their music was on a lot in my house. Happy memories.
Thanks, Sighs.

Love this, Nancy.
It somehow reminded me of this. It’s ‘skin’ rather than ‘spin’ but it’s a great song from one of my favourite bands, and the video should give you a smile or several:

Clive, my morning was, quite frankly, shit. I woke up around 3:30 in awful pain, cursing this damn surgery and the uselessness of Tylenol. Bill made tea and I managed to fall back to sleep. Now I’m wading through my 80+ emails and came across this.
Merry Fucking Hell, indeed! What a treat for my ears, my eyes and my soul …. a total mood changer. You have no idea how much I appreciate this and you right now! Thank you! 😘

I’m sorry to hear you had such a bad night and I hope things start calming down for you soon.
Merry Hell are a folk rock band and I’ve been a fan of theirs for many years. I don’t know how they manage it as they aren’t with a mainstream label, but they have made a number of videos for their songs, all laced with humour like this one. I hoped this might cheer you up a bit 😊

Thanks for your good wishes, Clive. Combined with some brilliant sunshine, great tunes and Bill’s amazing tuna salad, I’m doing ok. 😊

You’re welcome! Good to know your day has gone well. Here’s a bit more Merry Hell to keep that vibe:

I loved the way the lead vocalist stood there so matter-of-factly singing into the nozzle on the hose of a vacuum cleaner! Hilarious! Merry Hell is great fun and their music is so contagious. Thanks for the introduction, Clive!
