Wordle: It’s Too Darn Hot

Written for Di’s MLMM Monday Wordle #383.

weather, heat, energy drained, sleep, cover, dark, light, escape, hide, cool, mix

For the past few nights my sleep hasn’t been good but last night was the worst of all. We had a power failure! This was definitely not cool! No AC and nowhere to go to escape the heat. My apartment was dark and all the lights outside were off so I knew this was a widespread blackout, likely covering miles and involving the entire apartment complex. I aimed a flashlight at the thermometer on my balcony. Big mistake: it read 98ยบ! Somehow knowing the temperature made it worse. And the mix of humidity and heat made everything feel gross. I desperately needed to get some rest. Winding my way into the bedroom, I heard a sound like heavy breathing coming from the bathroom. Sweeping the room with my flashlight, I located the source of the sound and I simply had to laugh; my dog Fred found somewhere to hide away from the heat and was fast asleep on the floor of the marble shower! This oppressive weather had done a number on him, too, poor guy. I was drained of all energy. I grabbed a small battery operated fan from the shelf, set it for high and collapsed onto the bed. I was asleep in seconds.

  1. Blackout?! Oh my, I thought that happened only in developing countries. What happened.

Summer is the worst of the worse time for blackouts. Oh my. I sweat reading this.

Good that you have a battery operated fan. Thats the way to go. Sleep well.

Or learn a good lesson from your dog. Wise one. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Here I hear of heavy rains up north but itโ€™s not raining in my area. We need rain.

    Huge hugs.

    1. I guess I’m going to have to start giving all my characters names! This isn’t about me, Selma, and it’s all fiction except for the battery operated fan which I do have and the dog, which I don’t. Fred is my in-law’s dog.

The heat and humidity finally broke this morning after heavy rain last night.

    1. I think we’re all suffering with this heat; it’s oppressive. The dog is my in-law’s and I think he sleeps in the shower regularly. ๐Ÿ˜‚ We have a cat and we’re having the same problem with ours as you are with yours. Cats! ๐Ÿ˜ผ

  3. Oh Nancy, that sounds miserable. Now you have me wondering if my daughter in NY is ok..Smart Fred is laughable and lovable. You, now you’re too darn hot and melting. Good you found that fan for whatever it was worth but to make you think you felt better. โค๏ธ

  4. My dog Zeke used to always sleep in the shower in our ensuite. It was the only place cool enough for him ๐Ÿ™‚

These hot days are on a short break for us, today at least. Yesterday’s rain really did help. We get some respite. Actually, the whole week, unless the humidity becomes a factor will be perfect. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

    1. You lucky girl! Last night’s rain turned us into a steam bath (it’s already 86ยบ) with rain forecast for the entire week. Must be the hurricane coming up from FL where they had 30″ of rain! Catch me in 5 months when I’ll be bitching about the snow! ๐Ÿคฃ
