âDanielle wants to learn how to drive, Bobâ
âDonât look at me, Helen. Last year’s lessons with Vanessa nearly put me over the edge.â
âWell, I canât do it! Ever since Marcia Morelli snatched that promotion for Real Estate Agent of the Year away from me, Iâm spending all my time at work playing catch up.â
âThatâs not my problem, Helen. Anyway, I signed on to coach Brandonâs baseball team this season, remember?â
âOh, cry me a river, Bob! Youâre the one who took an early retirement; your schedule is much more flexible than mine.â
âThatâs right, I retired so I could do things I enjoy like playing golf and going fishing. Itâs important to stay mobile after retirement so we donât become dust in the wind.â
âWell, if you canât do it and I canât do it, why donât we get Vanessa to teach Danielle how to drive?â
âAre you out of your mind, woman! Vanessaâs been driving less than a year. She canât take Danielle out driving! Can you imagine the mayhem when those two hit the streets?â
âAt least Iâm making suggestions, Bob. All youâre doing is justifying why you canât do it.â
âOh, Helen, save your breath and donât look at me with such contempt. Iâm right and you know it. I wonât idly sit by and watch both our daughters driving without an adult in the car. Itâs out of the question.â
âYou wonât? Oh, thatâs wonderful, Bob! I knew youâd come around!â
âNow hold on there, Helen. I didnât agree to anything.â
âWhy, sure you did, Bob. You said you wouldnât sit idly by while the girls are driving around without an adult in the car.â
âBut I didnât meanâŠ..â
âLook at it this way, Bob. Danielle is used to being driven everywhere she goes. If you donât teach her how to drive, youâll just have to drive here wherever she wants to go. Iâd say this is a win/win situation.â
âAnd how do you figure that, Helen?â
âSimple! By giving Danielle driving lessons, youâll be doing your part to keep our insurance rates down, youâll be able to coach Brandon’s baseball team and still have time to do the things you enjoy and you wonât turn into dust in the wind. And all it takes is just one daily one-hour driving lesson! Youâre a genius, Bob!â
âI am? Yeah, I guess I am. Hey! Wait just a gosh darn minute, Helen!â

Eight?âIsn’t that what they say? Make them think it’s their idea and you win!âHere, you have to take driving lessons from a driving school, which would have saved them a bunch of arguing but costing them a decent penny đ

Yes, but who’s counting?
Here, we can be taught by a one-eyed drunken monkey (and many are!). As long as you pass the road test, it doesn’t matter where the lessons come from. We’re not stupid; we signed our boys up for driving lessons and it was well worth the money. Our school district does not offer Driver’s Ed as part of their curriculum.

Me! đ
I know. So many high schools offer it, which makes it easier because it’s after class and there is a bus to take ’em home. Parents just have to pay đ
