WARNING: THIS BLOG WAS NOT CREATED FOR BEATLEMANIACS!
If you’re on the fence about the Beatles or if you just don’t like them,
this blog is for you. My goal is not to convert you; it’s to expose you
to the lesser-known Beatles songs we don’t hear day in and day out.
These great tunes will show you just how amazing the Beatles are.
Of course, if you are a Beatles fan, pull up a chair and enjoy the tunes!

Welcome to F4. This is one of those songs that had everybody wondering what the hell it was all about.
John Lennon wrote today’s song to bewilder listeners who had been seriously trying to interpret some of the Beatles’ lyrics. He was partly inspired by two LSD trips and Lewis Carroll’s poem “The Walrus and the Carpenter”.
George Martin arranged and added orchestral accompaniment that included violins, cellos, horns, and clarinet. A 16-voice choir of professional studio vocalists also joined the recording singing nonsense lines and shrill whooping noises. Shortly after release, the song was banned by the BBC for the line “Boy, you’ve been a naughty girl, you let your knickers down.” Scandalous!
Have you figured out today’s song? I’m sure you have. Let’s check it out.
This is “I Am The Walrus” by the Beatles
🪲
With their cover of “I Am The Walrus”, this is Spooky Tooth
So, what did you think of this version by the progressive rock band, Spooky Tooth? I thought it was pretty good except for one thing ….. it was too slow. As you can see, the cover lasted almost two minutes longer than the original. It dragged on and probably should have been called “I Am The Sloth”.
No question …. this one goes to the Beatles. That’s my opinion; what’s yours?
Stop by for a jumping little number coming up tomorrow.
I”ll see you on the flip side. 😎

PS – If any video won’t play for you, I’ve provided the name of the song and who did it so you can find it on YouTube. It’s a pain in the ass but it does happen from time to time. My apologies.

Beatles again! Undoubtedly! Thank you!

I’m a slow convert to The Beatles. That was my parents’ music. I’ve always preferred John Lennon’s solo work, but that has made me more open to enjoying The Beatles.

Nice to see you hear, Nobbin; I see my little teaser worked. 🤣
If you’ve got the stamina, there are 17 posts before this one; just think how well-versed you’ll be on the Beatles!

I hear pretty well. That’s why I like to do audio versions of my stories. I’m a sucker for music and music discussion.
I have no stamina today. I didn’t sleep well. I’ll try to get around for more. I’ve read a book on The Beatles and watched Get Back, the Peter Jackson documentary about making… an album. Did I mention I didn’t sleep well.

Stupid typo but funny, too!
Get Back is very telling; great docu.
Did you say you didn’t sleep well? Sorry to here. 😉

GOSH … I was out of the country when the Beatles hit the states.
My boyfriend (now, husband) would add drawings or lil sayings until I said, “What’s a Beatle?” MMMMmmmm …. soooo, I’ll pass on which one I like, but this was an interesting post.

Thanks, Izzy! A few visitors from Fictioneers today. Very cool.
This probably isn’t the one I’d choose for a first-timer; there are lots more on the blog if you’d care to give a listen.
Thanks for stopping by!

I have enjoyed a few of the Beattle’s songs. I just never experienced the frenzy that evryone had. Where I was living there was one channel in the evening for two hours. I guess that’s why TV doesn’t interest me. I do enjoy good movies. Oh … Imagine by John Lennon is one of my favorites. Have a wonderful week … 😀

The original for me too, no question. At least you spared us the Oasis version!

Haha! That was on my list but I just couldn’t do it. There has to be some redeeming value to the covers I choose! 😂

For that relief, much thanks 😊

I must concur, the Spooky Tooth cover did drag on too long. Gotta give this one to John and The Beatles for sure.

It was much better than the version by Oasis! Just saying.

I don’t think I heard the cover by Oasis.

Well, if you’re not a regular listener to the Beatles, it’s easy for a song like this to fall through the cracks. They have an incredible catalog of songs and I’m trying to go with the lesser-played ones so I can see how you wouldn’t know this one.
So let me ask you now that you’ve had 18 days of exposure …. are you more of a fan than when you started reading my blog?

Wow, the Wonderful Walrus … I have the original vinyl and the VCR movie … and I agree Nancy, the “Spooky” version is far too slow … his yellow mustard custard is slowly drying up in his eye …

Haha! I went into the kitchen, made myself a sandwich, came back to my laptop and the song was still playing. It wasn’t as bad as In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida but close! 😂
