Continuing with my āAll Things George Weekā, today I have for you the 2nd of Georgeās Beatles’ songs. If you remember from yesterday, his first song was written in 1963; it took another 2 years for George to get the much-coveted nod from Lennon and McCartney.
Recorded in 1965, this song appears in the Beatlesā film āHelp!ā in a scene filmed on Salisbury Plain (a chalk plateau in southern England covering 300 square miles) where the group was under military protection from a murderous cult. Ooh, very exciting!
The song is āI Need Youā, originally written by George for Pattie Boyd, the English model/actress he married in January 1966, breaking millions of girlās hearts around the world.
From the Beatlesā album, āHelp!ā, this is George Harrisonās āI Need Youā. Thereās not a single thing wrong with a George Harrisong!
Lyrics
You don’t realize how much I need you
Love you all the time, never leave you
Please come on back to me
I’m lonely as can be
I need you
Said you had a thing or two to tell me
How was I to know you would upset me?
I didn’t realize as I looked in your eyes
You told me, oh, yes, you told me
You don’t want my lovin’ anymore
That’s when it hurt me
And feeling like this
I just can’t go on anymore
Please remember how I feel about you
I could never really live without you
So, come on back and see
Just what you mean to me
I need you
But when you told me
You don’t want my lovin’ anymore
That’s when it hurt me
And feeling like this
I just can’t go on anymore
Please remember how I feel about you
I could never really live without you
So, come on back and see
Just what you mean to me
I need you
I need you
I need you

I wish we could have heard more of his compositions. I’m sure there were many that never made it to vinyl.

I share your sentiments, Keith. George’s music is now published by Umlaut Corporation, which is controlled by his widow,Ā Olivia. There may be some incredible gems in that collection!

Back in the day, information was not as easily accessed as it is today with the touch of an electronic. But much of the information was gossip column worthy, creatively spread like wildfire that could rival the fastest internet connnection today.
I remember having a silly conversation with my grandson about something not related to the Beatles at all and I shook my head and said
“Yeah I know, and Paul is dead.” Of course, he didn’t know what in blazes I was referring to.

Isn’t that the truth, D?! Did you tell your grandson about the conspiracy theory? I find that whole story fascinating. The guy who supposedly replaced Paul was the one and only William (Billy) Shears. There are some very believable videos and stories but the one that really had me wondering was a video from a party or maybe it was Ringo’s wedding. Paul and Linda walked into the room and everyone was calling Paul “Billy”. That kinda blew my mind. Why were they calling him Billy? IF the conspiracy theory is true, it’s one very well-kept secret!

I told him about it, and we had a good laugh! Maybe someone should do a DNA test.

I don’t know if I want to know the history or not. Yes, I do now and thank you for collecting it. But maybe not way back when I listened to the Beatles constantly. I tend to think of them as one happy family living in a yellow submarine.

Of course! I truly believe we all felt that way. I know I was crushed when I learned the truth, but they were only human and a lot can happen when you’re with someone eight days a week! You can click on the link I gave to Misky below or wait till tomorrow’s most when I’ll provide the link there. Thanks for your comments, Sighs; you wrote exactly what was in my heart. š šŖ²

Was there really that sort of dynamic between George, Lennon and McCartney? Thatās quite sad.

As much as they loved each other, and they truly did, there was a bond between John and Paul that no one could break through. Sometimes it was Paul running the whole show. George was overlooked for a very long time. So glad you’re enjoying this series, sis! š„°
