This week I’m doing something I never do: I’m not going to write any stories (unless a word or photo prompt seduces me, which is always a possibility). I needed a little break and thought I’d concentrate on my other great love: music.
November 29 is the 22nd anniversary of the death of George Harrison so this week is all about George and the songs he wrote while with the Beatles.
Let’s get the ball rolling with this little gem. Here’s some background info:
Between August 19 and 24, 1963, the Beatles were playing some concerts in Bournemouth, on the southern coast of England, along with Billy J. Kramer & the Dakotas and Tommy Quickly. Feeling sick and with orders from his doctor to rest, George had nothing to do in his room at the Palace Court Hotel. Bored, he began writing a song, recording himself on a portable tape recorder. The result was “Don’t Bother Me”, George’s first song to appear on a Beatles’ album.
From the band’s second album, “With The Beatles”, this is “Don’t Bother Me”. There’s not a single thing wrong with a George Harrisong!
Lyrics
Since she’s been gone I want no one to talk to me
It’s not the same, but I’m to blame, it’s plain to see
So go away and leave me alone
Don’t bother me
I can’t believe that she would leave me on my own
It’s just not right when every night I’m all alone
I’ve got no time for you right now
Don’t bother me
I know I’ll never be the same
If I don’t get her back again
Because I know she’ll always be
The only girl for me
But ’til she’s here, please, don’t come near, just stay away
I’ll let you know when she’s come home until that day
Don’t come around, leave me alone
Don’t bother me
I’ve got no time for you right now
Don’t bother me
I know I’ll never be the same
If I don’t get her back again
Because I know she’ll always be
The only girl for me
But ’til she’s here, please, don’t come near, just stay away
I’ll let you know when she’s come home until that day
Don’t come around, leave me alone
Don’t bother me
Don’t bother me
Don’t bother me
Don’t bother me
Don’t bother me

I so enjoyed listening to that again! It’s been a while.

As you can tell, Keith, I’m digging deep and going for the first of his songs that were deemed good enough to be included on the albums. It’s great fun for me going through the oldies.

“unless a word or photo prompt seduces me” Very likely this will happen. 😂 Either way, enjoy the music! 🙌🏻 Love it!

Even the Sicilian Storyteller needs the time and distance away from storytelling to recharge and regenerate.
Unleash the Harrisonnambula!

The Sicilian whatthefuckedness of the Harrisonnambula! 🤯
It’s a force to be reckoned with! Get the fire pit lit, Nico! 🔥

‘With The Beatles’ was the first Beatles album I bought (although I didn’t buy the original 1963 release). I’ve got a nice German copy with a green border instead of white.

My first was “Meet the Beatles”. I think it came out just a couple of months before “With the Beatles”. They were such great albums!

Some of the early US titles of the albums were different from the UK but most had more or less the same tracks on them.

Yes. I never read a reason why the names were different; did you?

Wow! This one takes me back. I was 10 when this came out and had to wait a couple of years before we got a record player so that I could listen to this album. Happy memories 😊

Oh, I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Clive! I’m getting that reaction from other people and that’s exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks so much; I’m very happy to know that! 😁

You said you would be digging deep into their past but I wasn’t expecting you to go that far back! I’m pleased that it is off to a good start for you 😊

If you’re anything like me, when I’m in my car listening to The Beatles Channel on SiriusXM, I get all excited when an oldie like this comes on!
This is one of the tunes I grew up with; sometimes there’s nothing like good memories and getting back to basics.
Thanks, D! I hope you enjoy my new series! 🪲 💛

I love the Beatles channel, there’s so much background that I was totally unaware of at the time. Information was not so readily available back in the day!

You’re right! Peter Asher of Peter & Gordon is the best! He practically grew up with Paul, his sister Jane was Paul’s girlfriend and Peter knows everything about everything. I love his shows. And he does the big countdowns at the end of the year.
