So that was it, then. She finally left him. After all those threats and tearful rants, she packed a bag and left.
Oh, this wasnāt the first time. Every week sheād get into a tizzy, start throwing things around the place, threatening to leave. But she never did.
Sheād get as far as the front door, then stop, turn around and run back into his open arms. Theyād fall on the bed and passionately make up, each one promising never to fight again, each one swearing their unending love. Always feeding off each otherās desperation.
It never ceased to amuse him, the look of shock on her face when he beat her each time after having sex. What a stupid, insipid cow. She never learned her lesson. The one thing he hated more than her rants was the fact that she was such a slow learner.
But this timeās different. She actually left him.
On the third morning, alone in their tiny apartment, he lit a cigarette and stared out the window. Thatās when he heard footsteps coming up the stairs. So, she couldnāt stay away after all. He didnāt even bother turning around when the door opened. He knew one look at her face, heād want to bash it in.
Just as well. He never saw the gun as she ended his life.
āPolice. Thereās been a shooting. Send someone round. Yes, the phone booth by Millerās Road.ā
And she hung up and put a bullet in her head.

So she finally learnt something. I know, Nancy, ending of your story is always unpredictable, with a twist. Love it.

I like how you start in the middle of the process then take us back and build up the reveals until that final, inevitable sentence.
He wasn’t worth her dying for him, but she had no choice left.
And no-one else could save her from herself. šŖ

That’s it in a nutshell, Jenne.
A fait accompli for these two.

The spirit’s last gasp at the end of a hot, smoking muzzle. At least she won’t hook up with another guy like him. Not in this life. Really sad.

Bastard gave her no choice …. or so she believed.
People can be such sadistic little pieces of shit.

No, he wasn’t.
He accomplished one thing.
Breaking her spirit until she was done.

Oh boy. The twists and turns in that! You’ve built both characters superbly. I want to give her a big hug and warn her, and I want to punch him in the face. And I’m not a violent person. Usually. š³

These two reached a point of no return.
It may have been brutal but there was no other way.

I loved this song when it was used in the opening credits of the 2003 Quentin Tarantino film Kill Bill Volume 1, but that was the Nancy Sinatra version.

It’s the perfect song for this write
but Cher is far superior to Nancy S.

It’s the only ending that makes sense. She was bound to do herself in today, tomorrow or next week. She just took him along to show her devotion and true love for him as she knew he would be miserable without her. Maybe…

You’re right; it’s the only ending that makes sense.
She was beaten into the ground without a shred of hope.
