CHEEKY BASTARD

Photo Prompt © Roger Bultot

You know how it is when you see a person or hear a name and it sort of rings a bell but it’s not in its usual context so you don’t make the connection?

Yeah, that’s what happened to me when I discovered Carlton’s Candy Coop – my favorite place for all my sweet-tooth cravings.

Chocolates, nougats, peanuts, caramels … all those mouth-watering, sugar-rushing, delectable tummy treats that stick to your teeth but you don’t care because they’re just too damn yummy!

Then it hit me. Carlton. Carlton? Carlton! But of course! Carl Carlton was my dentist!

Why, that cheeky bastard!

      1. Tell me about it! I once told a friend, who later said I was rude for not introducing her, that if that ever happened again, to step forward and introduce herself because if I don’t I am drawing a blank!

  1. Fun story and videos. I like where your train of thought went here. All that sugar! Dentists are a prime target I think – if we make them a target of comedy, maybe we won’t be so darned scared of them.

  2. One has to diversify, right? What a great scheme!

I just named a character in my book Orin after Steve Martin’s dentist character from Little Shop Of Horrors. My dad loved that movie. He even had the soundtrack.

    1. I like the spin you put on my story by saying “one has to diversify”. Funny!
What a coincidence naming your character Orin; my son played the role of the dentist in his high school production of Little Shop of Horrors. It’s a great movie! Thanks for your comments!

    1. Interesting point, David. I did some research and couldn’t find a definitive answer to that question. The closest I could come was that while in dental school, some sort of “do no harm” statement is made but nothing more than that. Hmm. Most curious!
Thanks for a great comment! Those videos are hysterical and I’m very happy everyone’s enjoying them.

  3. Dear Nancy,

Your story had me laughing outloud. Cheeky bastard indeed. What a way to drum up business. Candy floss vs dental floss. 😉 And the Tim Conway/Harvey Korman dentist sketch is one of the funniest ones ever. 😀

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed the story and the videos, Rochelle! Those two were the funniest. Tim Conway had a natural flair for comedy and ad libbed a lot of his routines. Comedic geniuses at work (or is it play?). So funny without one single curse word; how refreshing!
      Thank you so much!

  4. But of course it’s that Carlton! Just like braces are supposed to fix teeth. Thank you for the video I laughed until I cried. Great story more truth than fiction, Nancy.

  5. Several decades ago, I had a dentist in San Francisco. She joked that she gave all of her young patients candy so they’d come back with cavities for her to fill. It was a joke, wasn’t it?
