Welcome back to Name That Tune. Today we have something a bit unusual for you but I think you’re going to love the song. It’s sure to bring back some delightful memories.
Here are the questions for today. Think outside the bog.
- Today’s song was written in 1979 and is primarily associated with a long-running children’s television show.
- Our featured performer plays the banjo and looks as young today as he did when his show premiered in 1976. It must be his high-protein diet and water aerobics.
- This award winning song is loved by adults and children alike and tells the story of the singer’s driving urge for something more in life. The song was deemed “culturally, historically and aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry. The singer also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
- The song’s name has been used by a number of charitable organizations wishing to evoke its message, including a children’s charity, a summer camp for seriously ill children and a horse-riding camp for people with disabilities.
- Today’s mild-mannered performer has been in a long-term relationship with a rather flamboyant and domineering diva but it seems to work well for them. He’s a real “prince” but she’s been called a “Porcine Primadonna” by the paparazzi!
Can you guess the name of today’s tune and the name of the performer? Think it over, then scroll down for the big reveal. You might be surprised.

The video is about to start; have you guessed today’s song and the singer who made it famous?
Let’s take a look.
If you said “The Rainbow Connection” by Kermit the Frog, you’re right!
Get the kids, grandkids, grandma and grandpa in the room. Here’s the video:
I hope this one put a giant smile on your face; thanks for having a bit of fun with me today. Life’s just too serious, isn’t it?
Stay tuned tomorrow as Mr. B eases us into another week with Breaktime Whodunnit.
See you on the flip side.

Ah!! Finally got it to play. What a super video, Misky! Thanks for the happy share ! 🩶

I guessed it was Kermit (point to me!) but had no idea of the song (point deducted), and didn’t recognise the title (another point taken away). I did know the song when I watched the video, so I’ll give myself a point for that… meaning my score for this edition is… 0! Ah well… there’s always next time! 🤣

Your comments always make me laugh, Tom, because you know it’s just a game and not meant to be taken so very seriously. Still, you try your best no matter what. Being able to laugh at oneself is a lovely quality; let it shine! 😀

I take it seriously, Nancy (spellchecker wanted serotonin then 🙄), but my musical mind just tweets and sings lalala at me when faced with clues… and titles… and groups… and, well, the list goes on. And, as I’ve said, I can’t help but laugh at some of the answers my mind comes up with! 🤣 I even laughed at Kermit until I realised it was right!

Are you familiar with the old adage “Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone”? I think it’s a wonderful line! Of course, we need to take things seriously; we can’t blindly walk through life like a cockeyed optimist. However, learning to laugh at ourselves appropriately and not being afraid to make mistakes is one of the most freeing and stress-relieving acts I know of.

I am indeed familiar with it… and I love (hopefully) helping to get the world laughing with me. All part of my Feel Good strategy. Laughing at ourselves is very therapeutic. I laugh, but lately it’s more of a titter than a guffaw. ‘Tis still a laugh, though! 😊

LOL! Too funny. I knew Kermit was in the mix somewhere, but I was dense as a rock about the song. Now if Nancy’s question had been about Nick’s song, I would’ve guessed it. Loved that video of Martin of Kermit.

I wouldn’t have got that one, either! 🤣 Between you and me, I thought at first, Nancy’s question was about the ‘Halfway down the stairs’ song, but that was by another frog entirely.
🤣 Sometimes, these comments are just surreal! 🤣 🐸

Kermit’s nephew?? I don’t know the song … at least I don’t think I do!

And what’s funny, Misk, is I sorta forgot about that Kermit/Steve Martin vid until today. It was the perfect response to my post.
I wonder if anyone else has videos they’d like to share.

So glad you posted this, Misky. Chevy Chase’s lip synching is stellar in both timing and natural appearance. All the movements in this video are perfectly timed by both PS and CC, but Chevy’s performance, facial expressions and body movements are flawless. A great share!!

Thanks, M!
I would have loved to see Ian on the theatre stage… tried a few years ago but tickets sold out so quickly.

It’s great fun to watch. Ian’s eyes just sparkle with joy.

Kermit on clue 5. Clueless on the song title. HAHaHa. I’m a little slow today. It’s bugger-all hot, and I didn’t sleep well.

Sorry it’s so uncomfortable by you!
You got Kermit so ‘ribbit’ to you! 🐸
Just relax with an iced tea and enjoy the song, Misk! Maybe you’ll get a brilliant flash for your wildlife series which is excellent, by the way ❣️

Oh, I’m so glad to hear that you’re enjoying the wildness challenge. It’s truly a ‘right’ challenge, if I’m honest. I enjoy nature, enjoy walking and breathing it all in, feed the birds in my garden, let wildflowers have their way in the borders, but I’m not an eco-warrior or a devotee of Greta.

More reasons to adore you! We are cut from the same cloth, luv.
I must draw the line at camping. I need a proper bed with a functioning toilet, preferably on site in an RV. Oh, and AC would be delightful! 😀
I relate more to Garbo than Thunberg 😎 😂

No. No RVs. Been there and done that. It’s got to be a hotel with a good bed and a strong shower (water for showers in the UK are gravity-fed and not very satisfying if you’re trying to wake up). We’re doing a road trip in July from here to Milano with lots of interesting hotels and stops on the way, including the Fréjus tunnel. It’s an amazing tunnel. https://www.sftrf.fr/uk/index.aspx

How exciting! That tunnel looks incredible! You’ve got me and Bill thinking we should do something like that. My dream vacation would be a trip on the Orient Express.
Truth be told, I’ve never even been in an RV but if it came down to that or a tent, there would be no question.

There’d be no question in my mind either. I’d stay home. 😂

Kermit immediately popped into my mind, that tells you where my brain resides, but the banjo and water aerobics clinched it! Good one!!!!

Well then, D, your brain and mine reside in the same bog and I’m delighted for the good company. I’ve always loved this song and its beautiful message; it came back into our lives recently while playing it for Colette. When Kermit gets up to turn off the recorder at the end of the video, a huge smile spreads across her delighted face,
How can anyone resist a banjo-playing amphibian? 🪕

It was one of the few songs I didn’t mind when it got stuck in my head, and that was just last month which also might explain why he immediately came to mind!

Nope, didn’t get it, but it is absolutely the best song ever

I love it!😄
Not in a million years my mind would open up the box with Kermit as the answer ( on a more scientific note, you also exposed in a funny way how are minds get conditioned and ignore facts that later seem so obvious).
Brilliant, Nancy – you are so right, life’s too serious for us not to have a big laugh any time possible😊

You know, Nick, I asked myself if people were going to get annoyed because I “tricked” them, so to speak. Well, those are the people who need a song like this the most! If I make one person smile today because I dared to step outside the “bog”, then I’m happy.
And Deb is right … it is the best song ever!
Thanks for the Steve Martin clip! The banjo is a wondrous toe-tapping instrument that has a way of making everything just a little bit better. And “Dueling Banjos” is an excellent way to put a little spring into our step.
Buongiorno! 🐸
