The ballad āBecauseā features a tightly woven, lush harmony vocal performance between John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison, overdubbed three times to make nine voices in all.
The story has been told that this song is actually “Moonlight Sonata” by Ludwig van Beethoven played backwards, which is a gross simplification, but itās safe to say Beethovenās famous piece certainly served as an inspiration for the song. And it certainly wasn’t the first time the Beatles experimented with recording music (and lyrics) backwards.
It took 23 attempts over a 3-day period to achieve a finished product everyone was happy with. Thatās not terribly long when youāre aspiring for perfection.
Here, in my opinion, is the perfect ballad by the Beatles. This is “Because”.
Lyrics
Aah
Because the world is round
It turns me on
Because the world is round
Aah
Because the wind is high
It blows my mind
Because the wind is high
Aah
Love is old, love is new
Love is all, love is you
Because the sky is blue
It makes me cry
Because the sky is blue
Aah

Isolated vocals are great fun to listen to. This version really brings home the Beatles extraordinary talent for harmony.

You can certainly hear the harpsichord much clearer on this remastered version. Abbey Road is my favourite Beatles album.

I meant on the original track on the original album not the vocal track š

That vocal version was interesting, but I kinda missed the harpsichord!

There are quite a few isolated vocals available; I find them fascinating.
George Martin was masterful on the harpsichord!
This post is something I was just fooling around with; not sure if it will be a regular thing. Time (and interest) will tell.
Thanks, Clive.

It was interesting to hear what the vocals sounded like on their own. They were pretty good, really, but the fifth Beatle made the difference for the album version.
