Ovi Poem

I Hated That Job Anyway

Written for Ovi Poetry Challenge 60.
‘Haste’ is our inspiration. Here’s my Ovi
.

Haste makes waste, I’ve heard it said
Why get up? I’ll stay in bed
It’s August! The office is dead
Good day to sleep in

Push the snooze, catch more ZZ’s
How I wish I could make time freeze
Loll around doing as I please
I’m just so very tired

Phone is ringing off the hook
Guess I should go take a look
But instead I throw a book
My boss left a message

You forgot about the meeting
Future customer was seething
It’s too late now, he is leaving
You blew it, pal

Do not bother coming back
Forget your stuff; someone will pack
And one more thing, you’re fired Jack
Think I’ll catch forty winks

Blue Rhapsody: An Ovi Poem

Written for Ronovan Writes Ovi Poetry Challenge #55
where ‘joy’ is our inspiration and for Moonwashed Weekly
Prompt
of ‘feathery blues’. This is my ovi poem.

Gardening is my source of joy
I talk to plants and they act coy
But then sprout like a teenage boy
They’re the center of attention

I have some lovely blue heather
Blossoms airy like a feather
Changeable as the weather
From baby blue to electric

My plants don’t ask much of me
Tender care I give willingly
And the best part is it’s free
Just a little of my time

I would like to be a plant
One to delight and enchant
Like a painting by Rembrandt
Sitting on a piano.

Ovi Poem

Have and Have Not: An Ovi SoC

Written for Ronovan Writes Ovi Poetry Challenge #53
where the inspiration is ‘motivation’ and for Stream of
Consciousness Saturday
where the inspiration is ‘water’.
Here is my Ovi Stream of Consciousness.

Backyard hose to gulp a quick drink
Babies getting washed in the sink
Garden sprinklers splash flowers pink
The things we do with water

Inner-city hydrants flushing
Fountains in the park are gushing
Free Kool-Aid gets the kids rushing
There’s nothing quite like aqua

Town pool for kids with no dough
Yachts in the ocean all for show
Haves and have nots, I just don’t know
Where’s the happy medium?

What’s your motivation, man?
Sell water in bottle or can
Not your style to give a damn
You just want to make a buck

All throats get parched and dry
Don’t let the little children cry
Paws on hot pavement start to fry
We need some heat relief

Water, water everywhere
Pour a glass and show you care
Help all living things and share
From sea to shining sea

Ovi Poem

Tick Tock Ticking: An Ovi

Ronovan Writes has offered up Ovi Poetry Challenge #52
where we are asked to write an ovi using the word
“tomorrow” as inspiration. Here is my ovi.

Songs say time keeps on slipping
Like brooks o’er shiny stones tripping
And kids their jumps ropes skipping
It just keeps moving on

It’s safe to say time flies
Like an eagle into the skies
So smoothly, he barely tries
I’d like to touch the clouds

No time to do that now
Worry lines crease the brow
Don’t fret about when and how
Nothing good will come from that

No sticking your head in the sand
It’s time to march with the band
And accept a helping hand
It will all get done

Why put it off till tomorrow
When time you cannot borrow
It flies faster than an arrow
Like quicksilver in your fingers

Don’t say there is no time
To make another rhyme
Or an old oak tree to climb
You have all the time there is

Look At Yourself: An Ovi

Ronovan has created for us the Ovi Poetry Challenge 51:
our inspiration is the word ‘steps’. Here is my ovi.

as seen at Poetics at dVerse

No time for speculation
Just truthful examination
To reach an evaluation
Which step I will take next

At times my body fails me
I’m an old and twisted tree
And my eyes can plainly see
Limitations in my way

Scans with the neurologist
Jabs from my orthopedist
Prescriptions at the pharmacist
One damn step at a time

When I look inside myself
I see I’m sitting on a shelf
I may need a little help
Sometimes the climb is steep

Keep up with the marching band
Reaching for an outstretched hand
To gently lift me when I land
Stumbling at the bottom step

Ovi Poem

Buon Appetito: An Ovi Feast

Ronovan offers the inspiration “food”
for Ovi Poetry Challenge #50.
Here’s my serving; pull up a chair.

Escarole and bean
Lentils red and green
Split pea and sardine
Traditional Sicilian soup

Feather light manicotti
Cushiony ravioli
Plump cavatelli
Pasta so delicious

Flaky sfogliatella
Creamy panna cotta
Sweet ricotta cassata
Decadent Italian desserts

Bubbly iced Moscato
Heady regal Borolo
Grapey Montepulciano
Intoxicating me

Poem

Slipping Away: An Ovi Poem

Written for Ovi Poetry Challenge 46
where “helpless” is our inspiration

I am a lot of different things
A new set of violin strings
The blackbird in your tree that sings
Isn’t making music great?

I can make a five course meal
Fish off a boat with rod and reel
Tell that jerk just how I feel
I wear a lot of different hats

Sometimes I walk along the brink
I will never let myself sink
My cheeks are rosy, in the pink
I’m feeling happy today

BUT there are times I feel crummy
With butterflies in my tummy
And my brain is gooey gummy
As they say, it happens

When it rains my joints get sore
And I just want to yell, No More
Leave me alone and slam the door
Those are things that get me down

Some nights I can’t get to sleep
Dark fears into my head will creep
Being pulled down by waters deep
It can be rather frightening

Every day I’m getting older
The weather feels a bit colder
Where’s that woman who was bolder
I feel her slipping away

I have great fears I must confess
I don’t want to be someone’s mess
I never thought I’d be helpless
Please won’t you stay for a while?

Poem

Isn’t Life Strange: An Ovi Poem

Written for Ovi Poetry Challenge 45: Season is our inspiration

Remembering my childhood toys
Yoyos and skates and other joys
And making signs that read “No Boys”
I had so much fun being six

Remembering my teenage games
My jeans always had brand names
How I teased and sprayed my wild mane
Trying to look so very cool

Remembering my salad days
Into your golden eyes I’d gaze
The Beatles were all the craze
But the Stones could really rock

Remember our newborn baby
We’d get some sleep at night maybe
Pregnant again this is crazy
That’s three kids in just three years

Remember our boys starting school
One plus one and the golden rule
Kids on the playground being cruel
A fat lip and a blackened eye

Remember the day our son wed
The champagne went straight to my head
We danced till we fell into bed
That was such a wonderful night

Remembering our grandchildren
I guess we got older but when
You haven’t changed a bit since then
You’ll always be my one true love

Remembering when you left me
You were here then gone suddenly
I keep asking how can this be
You weren’t supposed to die

Remember the springtime of life
The summer I became your wife
The autumns and winters of strife
I’m so damn lonely without you

Mad World: An Ovi

Written for Ronovanwrites Ovi Poetry Challenge 40: Tragedy
Ovi Rules: 4-line stanza, 8 syllables or less per line,
first 3 lines rhyme, 4th line must not rhyme.
Additional stanzas keep the same rhyming pattern
but do not rhyme each other.

Homeless living on the street
Children with no food to eat
People crying in defeat
We are stuck in a hopeless mess.

Politicians always lying
Innocents in war are dying
Talk of peace but no one’s trying
It all seems so fucking futile.

Playgrounds teeming with poison drugs
Computer hackers spreading bugs
Protestors being shot with slugs
Has every person gone insane?

No clean water left to drink
Can you smell that awful stink
Our universe is on the brink
The tragedies of a mad world.
