“Light me, handsome” was all she said.

I looked up from my drink. She was the most gorgeous dame I’d ever laid eyes on. I lit her cigarette, then mine.

Care to buy me a steak, handsome?”

“Baby, I’d buy you the whole cow.”

In A Groove

Written for dVerse Poets Quadrille #207 Spin Cycle

Hold my hand, honey
and take me for a spin
Twirl me ‘round the dance floor
I’m loving the spin I’m in

Whisper those sweet nothings, baby
send shivers up my spine
and make my head spin, lover
tonight I’m gonna make you mine

Eat Me!

Written for dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille #203
‘feeling crabby’, where we are to include some
form of the word ‘crab’. Here is my Quadrille.

Time after time
I have tried to
eat
a soft
shell
crab
sandwich.

It sounds so
appealing
but
tastes like
the chef
forgot
about
pealing

it.

Crunchy!
Crinky!
Croaky!
Cracky!

My crab
is crappy!

It’s like
listening
to
a CD
without
removing
the
shrink-wrap!

Like Spitting Into The Wind

De Jackson, aka WhimsyGizmo at dVerse Poet’s Pub
has asked us to write Poems of Place for Quadrille #201.
This is my submission.

That time I found
myself
in the principal’s office
because
I
screamed
at
the teacher
who tried to put
his hand
up
my
shirt,
then
being assaulted
again
at home
by
my
mother
who accused me
of
asking for it”.

Neither
place
felt
safe.

Anticipation: Dectina Refrain

Written for Quadrille Monday dVerse Poets Pub; De Jackson is
asking us to create a 44-word poem using the word “Friday”.

My poem is a Dectina Refrain:
1st line is 1 syllable, 2nd line is 2 syllables
3rd line is 3 syllables, and so on for 9 lines;
the 10th line is comprised of the first four lines

as one stand-alone sentence.

Our
Friday
night dinner
we wait all week
to sit on the couch
and eat sexy pizza
with cheese like hot melted love,
gooey and deliciously good,
and we drink tall glasses of red wine.
Our Friday night dinner we wait all week

Poem

Broken-Down Heart

De Jackson (AKA WhimsyGizmo) is hosting
Quadrille #197: Look Sharp, Now! (Let’s Write A Poem)
at dVerse Poets Pub. The prompt word is “sharp”
and the word count for our poems is, of course, 44.

Now baby I know
that
you want me to give
myself
to you
but the pain I feel
is still so very
sharp

Since he left
me
for her
I’m lonely and blue
all day and night
even you
cannot
jumpstart
my broken-down heart

Paying The Price ~ A dVerse Quadrille

Today at dVerse Quadrille we are asked
to wrote a 44-word poem using the word “touch”.

He cried out,
fingers
instantly blistering,
the tender skin
red and peeling
like
a
scalded
tomato.

Whimpering pitifully,
he went in search
of his
mother,
hoping for
a
gentle
touch.

“Foolish boy.
You were
warned
not to
touch;
now you must
pay
the
price.”

Short Story

Chastised

My quadrille for dVerse
using the word ‘imagine’

As a former children’s choir director,
I often rewrote the lyrics
to favorite songs.

My days as a lyricist ended
after being chastised by a pastor
who accused me of
‘lacking imagination’
by using the same melody
and ‘simply changing the words‘.

Imagine that!

Poem

Just Delicious

Today at dVerse Quadrille
our prompt word is ‘pinch’;
here is my 44-word response.

The day
I was born,
my father
declared
my cheeks
to be
as
rosy as an apple’
and begged,
“Someone,
please,
pinch me!”

My 4 year old
sister,
however,
was quite
annoyed
that I
was born
during
her
birthday party.

She’s
never
forgotten.

Poem

Reminiscing

This is my first time doing a quadrille.
Written for dVerse Quadrille
.

City Island, The Bronx, New York

My husband grew up
on an island;
perhaps that’s why
he’s a man
unto himself.

At the end
of each street
was a lagoon
stretching out
into the ocean.

He reminisces that
a childhood on
City Island
was the best way
to grow up.
