Librarian’s Lament

Written for Di’s Three Things Challenge #MM381
including the words ‘quit’, ‘quite’ and ‘quiet’.
In keeping with the three theme, my flash
is 33 words exactly. Here’s my take.

She was quite done, years of shushing the noisy, guarding the quiet. She’d quit counting how many times she’d whispered “Quite! Quiet, please!” until the words quit making quite any sense at all.
