Written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt
where she asks us to get creative in exactly 76
words using the prompt word ‘sensibility’. Also for
Sue & Gerry’s Weekly Prompts Colour Challenge –
Yellow. Here’s where the prompts took me.

She had always trusted her sensibility over sentiment, how she catalogued grief the way a botanist presses leaves. But when they cleared his study, she looked around at the emptiness and paused at the window. One yellow sunflower, paper-dry and forgotten, leaned against the glass. He must have planted it in secret, knowing she’d find it, after. Her careful facade of logic cracked clean down the middle. She sat on the floor and finally, finally, wept.
