Written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt
#453 where we’re asked to get creative in
exactly 43 words using the word ‘mourn’.
Also for Sue & Gerry’s Weekly Prompts –
The One Day Prompt. Here’s my take.

She packed in silence, folding regret into her suitcase. One day, they would understand why she left without saying goodbye. For now, let them mourn the version of her they’d invented….the daughter they thought would stay contained forever. She couldn’t take another day.

So very true. Parents have this strong instinct to protect their children. But children want to do something different.

I remember when one of my daughters left home, the first of my children to leave. I cried bucket loads. She moved back several times since 😂. Perfect song for your sad but great prompts response.

Sue, it was different for us. Our sons attended a local college and lived at home into their early 20s when they moved into an apartment together just minutes from our house. While we were empty nesters, the house never felt empty! Your daughter obviously loves the home environment you created for her and feels safe and happy there or she wouldn’t have returned all those times. Kudos to you; parenting is rough! Thanks very much for your wonderful comments, Sue.

Our five were a mixture, two stayed home to study, three studied away. Then two of them travelled for a few months. Today, three of the girls are just a few miles away, albeit in different directions. And with the house now renovated, I have the eldest daughter and family living next door, and my son living with me in what we now call the annex.

That sounds really lovely, Sue. There’s nothing like family! Our sons are married with kids of their own but live only about 15 minutes away making visiting easy for everyone. 😊
