Nobody But You: Thursday Inspiration

Written for Thursday Inspiration #309
“I’ll Never Find Another You”.
 Here’s my response.

For this week’s Thursday Inspiration, Jim Adams asks us to respond to the challenge by using the prompt word world’, referring to the song “I’ll Never Find Another You” by The Seekers or another one of their songs, or anything else we feel fits.

As I was reading Jim’s post, I kept thinking there was an old song by Paul Anka with the same name. I thought it would be cool to feature a totally different song than the one by The Seekers, but with the same name; however, when I found the song by Paul Anka, it wasn’t exactly as I remembered.

Paul Anka’s “I’d Never Find Another You” was written by the power team of Gerry Goffin and Carole King. Released in 1961 when Anka was just 20 years old, the song was a good ballad for him. Showcasing his smooth style, it highlights his versatility and early pop success before his bigger hits like “Diana” or songs he wrote for Frank Sinatra (“My Way”) and Buddy Holly (“It Doesn’t Matter Anymore”). It was a modest hit for Anka, peaking at #106 on the Billboard Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart. “I’d Never Find Another You” shares a very similar title with the massive 1965 hit by The Seekers, “I’ll Never Find Another You”. A difference of one letter in the title, one slight change in a pronoun contraction led to a lot of confusion. I think it’s close enough for Jim’s challenge …. don’t you?

LYRICS

Don’t ever worry that I’ll leave you
That’s such a foolish thing to do
How could I ever go
When in my heart I know
I’d never find another you

I might find other arms to hold me
But they would only leave me blue
The thrill of your embrace
Is what I can’t replace
I’d never find another you

Though there are times when we may quarrel
I can’t stay mad at you for more than just a minute or two now
I know I never want to leave you
Cause if I searched my whole life through
I know there’ll only be
A second best for me
I’d never find another you

I know I never want to leave you
Cause if I searched my whole life through
I know there’ll only be
A second best for me
I’d never find another you
I’d never find another you

  1. This is my first time hearing this song Nancy and I think it is great that you found another song with the same title. Everyone associates this song with The Seekers, but Anka released it first. Thanks for sharing this sentimental, meaningful and wonderful song.

  2. First song I thought of also was The Seekers and “I’ll Never Find Another You.” I don’t remember Paul Anka singing this. Yes, it is strange that the song titles are so very close. The first song I remember by Paul was “Put Your Head on My Shoulder.”
