This week at Glyn Wilton’s Mixed Music Bag,
he’s asking us to write about a song in which
the title or a line mentions the current month.
Here’s my November artist and her song.

And just like that, another month in Glyn Wilton’s Mixed Music Bag is over. Christmas is just under one month away and in 36 days, we will welcome a new year. I have no idea where the time has gone and my mind is officially blown.
My featured performer for this final week of the month is someone I’ve never heard before. I chose her for two reasons: to introduce a new and different artist, and because she has a very interesting and appropriate name.
November Ultra is the stage name of a French-born singer-songwriter known for her introspective pop music; before her solo career, she was part of a Parisian band called Agua Roja. Known by the nickname Nova, she gained recognition for her breakthrough single “Soft & Tender” in 2020, followed by her 2022 debut album Bedroom Walls. Often praised for her sweet, warm voice, Nova chose her name from Grammy Award winner Frank Ocean’s Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape, reflecting her love for nostalgia and her musical influences.
Born Mélanie Pereira in France in 1988 to a Spanish mother and a Portuguese father, Nova credits her 90-year-old grandfather for introducing her to 1960s Spanish romantic music and musicals, which influenced her emotional and lyrical style. November Ultra’s music is described as “bedroom pop” and is characterized by its intimate, heartfelt, and cinematic quality. It blends a variety of genres, including pop, R&B, folk, and electronic music. She often works from a DIY bedroom studio, producing her own songs.
Released in 2022, November Ultra’s song “Novembre” is about longing for family, warmth, and home. It was written during a “She Is The Music” writing camp with Swedish songwriter Kerstin Ljungström, inspired by her feelings of homesickness while on tour. The song’s theme reflects a “frosted” feeling of a year ending; it appears on her 2022 album Bedroom Walls, which is described as a “sonic bedroom” filled with memories, feelings, and dreams.

LYRICS
I miss Christmas at your house
Making fuzzy angels in the snow
My name sounds better in your mouth
Warm from coffee under the mistletoe
Oh, cars and buses take me places
But I miss home
Trains and faces, smiles are fading
I just miss home
November’s all year long now
December never came
I realize I’m alone now
But they all think I’m the same
November
November, oh
November
November, oh
I miss Christmas at your house
Watching Julie Andrews on the hill
I feel much better when you laugh
In the echo, life and time stand still
I keep changing, but nothing changes
I just miss home
My heart keeps racing, who am I chasing?
Am I chasing home?
November’s all year long now
December never came
I realize I’m alone now
But they all think I’m the same
November

What a gorgeous voice she has! It has such lovely range. I especially loved the second stanza where it was low and caramel unctuousness!

What a lovely song, I’m going to add it to my Christmas playlist!
Immediately before listening to it, I heard the gorgeous Sound Of Music Orchestral Medley on the radio – then up popped Jiulie Andrews in your song!

Nice song, and she has a lovely voice and style. Puts me in mind of Nina Nesbitt.
