RDP Tuesday: grace

Today at RDP, Martha Kennedy asks us to get
creative with the word ‘grace’. Thanks, Martha!
Here’s where the prompt word took me.

My mother named me after a nurse in St. Francis Hospital in The Bronx. My very loud Sicilian family had been arguing in my mother’s hospital room about what my name should be. They were so vociferous, Nurse Nancy came in and nicely kicked them out! My mother admired her for that.

Nancy is one of those generational names; almost every Nancy I know was born in or around the same year as me. It’s not a very common name but it’s a nice name. It means “grace and favor”. I like that. What’s even more interesting is I was born on a Tuesday and, according to the old poem, “Tuesday’s child is full of grace”.

And my life has been serendipitous ever since.

  1. I, too, am a Tuesday child. As are my two kids…

Named after the actor Dale Robertson coz he was my mother’s “George Clooney” (or insert whichever heartthrob tickles your fancy, Nancy)…
