Today at RDP, Martha Kennedy asks us to get
creative with the word ‘grace’. Thanks, Martha!
Here’s where the prompt word took me.

My mother named me after a nurse in St. Francis Hospital in The Bronx. My very loud Sicilian family had been arguing in my mother’s hospital room about what my name should be. They were so vociferous, Nurse Nancy came in and nicely kicked them out! My mother admired her for that.
Nancy is one of those generational names; almost every Nancy I know was born in or around the same year as me. It’s not a very common name but it’s a nice name. It means “grace and favor”. I like that. What’s even more interesting is I was born on a Tuesday and, according to the old poem, “Tuesday’s child is full of grace”.
And my life has been serendipitous ever since.

I had a friend at school called Nancy, and she was always known as Fancy Pants!
You got me thinking so I went Googling. It seems I was born on a Wedensday and my name is from Celtic roots and means wood! I feel a right plank now!

It was quite popular for a time, I had two Nancys in my class at grade school!
And grace is a wonderful path.

I had to look up my birth day later on in life, my Dad said a few times, I came ‘on a really awkward day….’, whatever that means 🤣

What a strange thing to say! Care to share?

I, too, am a Tuesday child. As are my two kids…
Named after the actor Dale Robertson coz he was my mother’s “George Clooney” (or insert whichever heartthrob tickles your fancy, Nancy)…

You’re the second Tuesday child to comment so far!
And here I am thinking you were named after Dale Evans AND Roy Rogers; makes sense, ya know?

Woot!
Nope. And how ironic that my mother would meat a dude named Rogerson…

I think you’ve written about this before, and it’s a great story about your name.
I’ve always hated that rhyme. Yes, I’m another Wednesday child 🤣

Yes, I’ve written about being named after a nurse but I think this is the first time I mentioned the meaning of my name …. could be wrong.
Wednesday’s child could have been pedantic but that doesn’t rhyme. 🤣

I don’t recall, but have no doubt that your memory is better than mine!
My pedantic tendencies are due to being a Virgoan – I’m doubly cursed 🤣

I am also a Tuesday’s child and on the day that I was born the first issue of TV Guide was published in 10 cities, featuring Lucille Ball and her newborn son, Desi Arnaz Jr., on the cover.

That’s a very cool story, Jim, and I know exactly which TV Guide cover you’re talking about. The day I was born, the 22nd amendment was ratified, limiting US Presidents to 2 terms.
