Today at RDP, drkottaway asks us to get
creative with the word ‘snowflake’. Thanks, Doc!
Here’s where the prompt word took me.

When our boys were little kids, we started spending part of the summer at the shore in Montauk, NY. One year, on the drive out east, we stopped at a roadside ice cream place called Snowflake; it was good to get out of the car and stretch our legs, take a break and, of course, buy ice cream cones which we’d eat at one of the bright pink benches. Stopping at Snowflake quickly became a yearly tradition. Back home after vacation, we could never find a place with such delicious ice cream. Maybe it was our happy summer vacation memories that made it taste so good.

That’s it, I’m off for an ice cream – I don’t care if it is freezing out there!
Great to hear Lon the Don egen.

Ice cream … it’s not just for summer! We enjoy ice cream all year ’round; my favorite flavor is coffee.
Lon the Don egen. You’re too much, dear Keith! 😂

I like my ice-cream! … and I’m too much of an ‘ice-cream-aholic’ to remember where I had my favorite one …

Hahaha! I go crazy sitting next to this lip-smacker during dinner! Whenever I eat ice cream, I let it sit until it softens up …. that’s when it gets creamy and is most flavorful. We eat ice cream every night; my favorite flavor is coffee. 🍨 😋

Yes, an ice cream every night for me too, Nancy 🍦😍

Some traditions are like that! We always stop at Bob’s Clam Hut in Kittery when we head to Maine and think the fried whole belly clams there are the best anywhere!

OMG, D! I absolutely know that feeling and the wonderful memories attached. Now I’m craving fried clams!

My great pleasure, Mark. One summer turned into 35 summer vacations, eventually with our sons, their wives and kids…. and many stops at the Snowflake! That’s really what it’s all about.

I remember singing this song as a kid, but I didn’t know that anyone ever recorded it.

We all sang this song, didn’t we! I didn’t know anyone had recorded it either, but it was a fun find. Thanks, Jim.

I was going to add – Lonnie Donegan was one of my dad’s favourites- I remember him playing a song about leaving your chewing gum on the bedpost! 😆

Thanks very much! Good memories for sure, Ange. Our summer vacations were the best! I remember that song about chewing gum…does your chewing gum lose its flavor on the bed post overnight. What fun! 😆

I cannot get this memory out of my head. Going to an ice-cream shop like this- and they served little snowflake pressed sugar candies, not sprinkles but a bit larger on the top of the cones. Could this possibly be the ice-cream shop you mention here? I tried a google search but cannot find another shop by this name.

Yes! I’d forgotten about that sugar candy snowflake! That has to be why the ice cream shop is called Snowflake. This is the only place with that name that I’m aware of. Thanks for the flashback!
