RDP Tuesday: absurd

Today at RDP, Martha Kennedy asks us
to get creative with the word ‘absurd’.
Thanks, Martha! Here’s were my mind went.

Drive-Thru Fiasco

The burger I ordered was as big as my face
Fries glowing like they came from outer space
My Coke arrived in a bucket-sized cup
I shook my head saying “Hey, what’s up?”

It’s utterly absurd, this fast food charade
Where portion control has totally strayed
But I’ll be back tomorrow, on that you can bet
I haven’t identified the ‘secret sauce’ yet!

  1. This poem is a perfect anti-homage to fast food, which I try to avoid at (almost) all costs. I will admit Mrs. B and I do indulge in Chick-fil-A on occasion…the one vice on the menu. That song is quite unhealthy, but perfect for the post.😁

    1. Thanks very much for your excellent comments, Bruce. The song is atrocious but you’re right about it being the perfect match for my poem. We stopped at Chick-fil-A when we were at Mohegan Sun 15 months ago for an Elvis Costello/Daryl Hall concert. It was our one and only experience with the place and it was good, I must say. It was also our most recent visit to a fast food place. I’m pleased to know you enjoyed today’s post, Bruce. Thanks, again!

    1. Thanks, Di. That song supposedly reached #2 on the UK charts when it first came out. It never made it over here.
We don’t have a Burger King, KFC or Pizza Hut near us; there’s a McDonalds in the next town but we never go. We took Colette once while we were out and I got some kind of ice cream thing which was actually pretty good. She liked her Happy Meal! 😁

  2. Ah, this is perfect! My husband and I always talk about portions because with all the traveling we’ve been doing, with the move and all, we have experienced many different ideas of what a portion is. Many years ago I worked in a steak restaurant and on the weekend we would have a king cut prime rib, I can’t even remember how big exactly, but people would finish it, along with the side and a salad! I can’t even eat a whole steak without needing to take it home for leftovers!

    1. Yes! I’m all for doggie bags! There’s a diner we go to occasionally; the portions are huge. I’ll eat a third of my food, bring the rest home and still have enough for two more meals! I don’t get people who don’t bring leftovers home; what a waste of money and food! Thanks, Christine,
