RDP Friday: apparition

Today at RDP, Martha Kennedy has asked us
to get creative while focusing on the word ‘apparition’.
Thanks, Martha! Here’s my take.

Cleaning Crew

In shadows deep, where dust mites grew
Skeletons woke, a silent crew
With bony hands and hollow eyes
They swept the gloom from dusk to sunrise

Each cobweb fell, each book stood tall
A ghostly dance throughout the hall
An apparition, faint and white
A memory stirred in fading light

They polished wood, they scrubbed the floor
Of echoes lost, and days of yore
No grim intent, no chilling dread
Just cleaning echoes of the dead
