Written for Muse on Monday where David asks us
to write a story with a character who is sick.
This is where the prompt took me.

Joaquin found himself wandering the dimly lit streets, his body burning with fever. The night was unusually warm for October and a sense of unease lingered in the air. He had the reputation of being a notorious party animal but tonight, even he was having trouble staying on his feet. As he stumbled along, a figure emerged from the shadows …. a woman of exotic beauty and alluring charm.
As if floating on a cloud, she approached Joaquin with a seductive smile, her eyes gleaming with a mystical light. Without saying a word, she loosened her thin robe and leaned in close, her naked body like a branding iron against Joaquin’s already febrile skin. Her lips brushed against his neck. In a moment of wild desire, Joaquin felt the exquisite agony of her fangs penetrating deeply. He had never before experienced such an all-consuming passion.
As the woman drew back, a surge of intense heat coursed through Joaquin; his fever was scorching yet his senses were heightened. The woman’s gaze burned erotic images into Joaquin’s brain and he found himself drawn to her in an inescapable pull.
As a dark force surged through the fibers of his body, Joaquin embraced his transformation with a frenzied scream. The moon cast its silvery light upon them and the man who had once been mortal was reborn as a creature of darkness with a hunger for flesh and blood.
The man and woman vanished into the shadows, their bodies entwined in a pyretic dance of ecstasy and danger.

That ending gave me chills, Nancy — the transformation felt both feverish and inevitable. The sensual danger in their “pyretic dance” really seals it. 🩸

Vampires are sexualized because the act of biting and exchanging fluids is a powerful metaphor for sexual intimacy, allowing for the exploration of taboo desires and the fear of sex, loss of innocence, and consent. This imagery is compounded by the vampire’s inherent traits, such as their seductive nature, predatory power, and eternal life, which appeal to themes of forbidden romance and the allure of dangerous, otherworldly beings.

Thanks for a great comment, Ange. I never got into Buffy or the Twilight Saga but I do like the good old B&W vampire movies with Bela Lugosi. Have you noticed no one ever says “I want to suck your blood!”? LOL!
That song is really cool; I knew it would be a good fit. Thanks!
