RDP Monday: spill

Today at RDP, we are asked to share a
story, poem, photo, painting, essay, etc.,
centered on the word ‘spill
. Here’s my take.

A secret is a little seed,
planted deep inside.
It grows quiet roots,
twisting, turning.

Then comes the urge,
the tickle in your throat.
You want to spill it,
like water from a cup,
too full, too heavy to hold.

Words rush out,
a waterfall of whispers.
The seed is gone,
blown on the wind.
Now everyone knows.

  1. ‘Our Lips Are Sealed’ tells the story of a secret romance based on a short ‘tour affair’ that Terry Hall the singer of The Specials and Go-Go’s guitarist Jane Wiedlin had when their respective band’s toured together.  Hall sent Wiedlin the lyrics to ‘Our Lips Are Sealed’ later in the mail, and at the time when they started their relationship, he had a girlfriend in England, and they were talking about getting married.  Wiedlin was 20 at the time, and Hall claimed to be in love with her.  Wiedlin really liked the lyrics, so she finished them and wrote the music to it.
