It was the night of my 28th birthday; the patio was set for an intimate dinner with our closest friends. Normally I don’t celebrate my birthday but I was getting strong vibes from my beau that he was going to propose. I hoped to be married by 30; I had a great job, a beautiful apartment, and a terrific guy. Why not now? I was about to light the candles on my cake when I noticed my boyfriend slipping back onto the patio, followed closely by my best friend. They were flushed, disheveled and I was left with burned fingers.

  1. Dear Nancy,

Funny that song ran through my head as I read your story. Of course the girl in the song got Johnny back in Judy’s turn to cry. I don’t think this boyfriend is worthy of being taken back. But then, neither was Johnny. 😉 Good one.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    1. It’s definitely a bitter pill, Brenda. Embarrassing, too, with her close friends there. Sometimes it’s best to just rip off the bandage very quickly and be done with it. It would be very cool if she could collect herself and say “I’d like to thank my boyfriend for giving me a priceless birthday present … the gift of seeing what a two-timing jerk he is! I can do so much better than him!”

Thank you for an excellent comment, Brenda. Happy weekend.
