Written for Only Murders In My Mind
Weekly Writing Prompt #65. This week’s
inspiration is the photo seen below.
This is where the photo took me.

There was an old lady who lived in a shoe. Her many kids were now grown and flown except for the two youngest boys who were only interested in jamming with their friends. One day, the old lady fell down and broke her hip. She needed surgery, followed by a stay of five weeks in the hospital’s rehab facility. The rehab place was nice but there’s no place like home, even if it is a beat up old shoe. Finally the day came for the old lady to be released. Well, she was shocked when she arrived home to discover her sons had formed a rock band, moved all their friends in and pimped out the old shoe into a fancy high top Converse All Star! At first the old lady was fit to be tied but then she discovered the band had a few hit songs and were raking in the money. She held her tongue, changed her attitude and they all lived happily ever after.

Love this twist on the classic nursery rhyme, and the Harrison song that comes with it! (And thoroughly impressed with Jeff Lynne’s hair!) 🥰

Damn! That is some serious hair. I had hair like that back in 1978; one of these days I’ll have to post a pic. This is one of my favorite Harrison tunes. It was a fun story to write. Thanks, Liz.

A clever take on the old fairy tale, Nancy … I’m nearly in tear with the wonder song, with one of my all-time favorite singer/song writers, the late (and great) Gary Brooker …
