“Tumbling Dice,” a classic Rolling Stones track, is a rock song about a gambler’s unfaithful nature, with lyrics inspired by gambling metaphors and a conversation with a housekeeper. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards co-wrote the song, which was released on the 1972 album Exile on Main St. The song’s creation involved extensive experimentation and a difficult recording process at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles.

Big thanks Jim Adams for this inspiration. Thanks to you all for stopping by for a look and a listen.

That’s all she wrote. See you on the flip side. 😎

  1. While when seeing the prompt my first thought was “Black Water,” one of my favorite songs by the Doobie Brothers, “Tumbling Dice” by The Rolling Stones, of course, is a great pick as well! In fact, I’m going to listen to that song right now! 🙂

  2. Lovely song, nice choice, Nancy. The Rolling Stones recorded their 1972 album Exile on Main St. at Villa Nellcôte, a 16-room mansion in Southern France that was just turned into a gambling den with card games and roulette wheels.  Jagger said that he didn’t know anything about dice playing, but he found out that his housekeeper played dice and that became the inspiration for this song.  In ‘Tumbling Dice’, Jagger becomes a playboy gambler, rolling away from the cheating women that are wearing him down.
