Weird Al Wednesday – 6.11.25

Hey! Welcome back to Weird Al Wednesday
featuring the comedic genius of Al Yankovic.
“Say, Al! It’s time once again for a little bit
of polka music. Whaddya say, Al? How about

we treat our weirdos to another polka today?”

Who knew I’d be featuring another of Weird Al’s polkas so soon? I was going to hold off a little longer but my inbox was just bursting with fan mail and demands for “POLKA! POLKA!”, I was left with no choice but to give the public what they want …. more weird polkas!

Bohemian Polka” is a complete cover of (you guessed it!) the Queen song “Bohemian Rhapsody”; it’s from Al’s album, Alapalooza, which was released almost 18 years after “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Al’s version capitalizes on the original’s then-newfound popularity after being featured in the 1992 movie Wayne’s World. “Bohemian Polka” is the only one of Al’s polkas to feature just one song as opposed to a medley of numerous songs. It is also one of two polkas to parody just one artist, the other being “Hot Rocks Polka”, which features only songs by the Rolling Stones and was posted here on May 14, 2025. “Bohemian Polka” was performed live on two of Al’s tours …. Alapalooza and Al-Can. ‘Al can’ really play a mean accordion, as you’ll hear on this recording; I don’t know how anyone will be able to stay in their seats once the music starts playing! Everybody polka!

From 1993’s Alapalooza, this is “Bohemian Polka” by Weird Al Yankovic

LYRICS

Is this the real life
Is this just fantasy
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
‘Cause I’m easy come, easy go
Little high, little low
Anyway the wind blows, doesn’t really matter to me
To me

Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he’s dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I’ve gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooo
Didn’t mean to make you cry
If I’m not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body’s aching all the time
Goodbye everybody – I’ve got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooo
I don’t want to die
I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all

I see a little silhouetto of a mam
Scaramouch, scaramouch, will you do the Fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning – very, very frightening me
Galileo, Galileo
Galileo, Galileo
Galileo figaro – Magnifico… Hey! Hey! Hey!
I’m just a poor boy, nobody loves me
He’s just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go – let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go – let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go – let him go
Will not let you go – let him go
Will not let you go – let him go
No, no, no, no, no no no no no!

Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me
For me

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh, baby – Can’t do this to me, baby
Just gotta get out – just gotta get right outta here

Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters
Nothing really matters to me Anyway the wind blows – Hey!

Well, was I right or what? That was some impressive accordion playing by The Weird One! His fingers were really flying!

Thanks to all my weirdly wonderful Weird Al Weirdos for joining me this week and every week as we celebrate the weirdness that is Weird Al Yankovic.

Are you having any fun yet? I sure am! 🤓

And remember what I like to say …. It’s good to laugh!

That’s all she wrote, kids. See you on the flip side. 😎

      1. You are right about that, but I never followed them even though their music was on the radio and I heard it and thought it was good, the early 1990s was not a time where I listened to a lot of music.
