Hey! Welcome back to Weird Al Wednesday
featuring the comedic genius of Al Yankovic.
“Say, Al! Today I have something new and
different for all our weirdos at home.
What do you think … should we do it?”

This week’s theme at Song Lyric Sunday hosted by Jim Adams was to choose a greatest hits and/or compilation album … of which there are legion … and select a song from said album to write about. In case you missed my blog on Sunday, I chose Hotrocks by the Rolling Stones. With that in mind, I thought today would be the perfect time to break out the accordion for a little of “The Hot Rocks Polka”, Al’s 4th polka medley which appears on his 6th studio album, “UHF – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and Other Stuff”. Al is known for his polka medleys; they are included on 12 of his 14 albums and he performs one during each of his live shows. Now, before you start getting all weirded-out about being subjected to polka music, don’t run off in a panic. The Weird One’s medleys are composed of various popular songs, each one interpreted as a polka. Unlike Al’s parodies, the original lyrics of these songs are not changed; since Al doesn’t curse, any profane lyrics are covered with cartoonish sound effects.
It just so happens my paisano and fellow Weird Al fan, Keith Allen over at Nostalgic Italian, read my previously mentioned Song Lyric Sunday blog yesterday and left me a message recommending Al’s Hot Rocks Polka for this week; great Italian minds think alike! Since I take my serendipity very seriously … 😉 … I knew this was a sign. It is indeed the perfect time for some polka! There’s not much more explanation necessary; let’s watch some Stones’ videos amped up to ludicrous speed with Al’s voice dubbed over Mick’s. It’s really quite hilarious! And, yes … that is Al laying down some wicked accordion tracks. Are you ready? Let the awesome weirdness begin!
From 1989, this is “The Hot Rocks Polka” by Weird Al
LYRICS
If I could stick my hand in my heart
Spill it all over the stage
Would it satisfy you, would it slide on by you
Would you think the boy is strange?
Ain’t it stra-a-ange?
If I could win, if I could sing
A love song so divine
Would it be enough for your cheating heart
If I broke down and cried?
If I cri-i-ied?
I said, ah, no, it’s only rock ‘n’ roll, but I like it
Ah, no, it’s only rock ‘n’ roll, but I like it, like it, yes, I do
I really, really, really, really do-do-do-do-do, hey
Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton fields
Sold in a market down in New Orleans
Scarred old slaver knows he’s doing all right
Heard him with the women just around midnight
(Brown sugar)
How come you taste so good?
(Brown sugar)
Just like a young girl should
I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she would meet her connection
At her feet was a footloose man
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, you might find
You get what you need
You need honky tonk women
Give me, give me, give me the honky tonk blues
Under my thumb, the girl who once had me down
Under my thumb, the girl who once pushed me around
It’s down to me, yes, it is
The way she talks when she’s spoken to
Down to me, the change has come, she’s under my thumb
So goodbye, Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still, I’m gonna miss you
Hoo-oo hoo-oo hoo-oo, hoo-oo hoo-oo hoo-oo, hoo-oo hoo-oo
Hoo-oo hoo-oo hoo-oo, hoo-oo hoo-oo hoo-oo, hoo-oo hoo-oo
Please allow me to introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
I’ve been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man’s soul and faith
Pleased to meet you, hope you guessed my name
‘Cause what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game
I said hey (hey), you (you), get off of my cloud
Hey (hey), you (you), get off of my cloud
Hey (hey), you (you), get off of my cloud
Don’t hang around, ’cause two’s a crowd
Laughter, joy and loneliness and sex and sex and sex and sex
Look at me
I’m in tatters
(Shadoobie, shattered)
I’m shattered
(Shadoobie, shattered)
This doesn’t happen to me every day, whoa, my
(Let’s spend the night together)
No excuses offered anyway, oh, my
(Let’s spend the night together)
I’ll satisfy your every need
(Every need)
And now I know you’ll satisfy me
My-my-my-my, my-my-my
Let’s spend the night together
Now I need you more than ever
Let’s spend the night together
Now
(My-my-my-my, my-my-my)
I can’t get no satisfaction
I can’t get no girly action
‘Cause I’ve tried (and I’ve tried) and I’ve tried (and I’ve tried)
And I’ve tried (and I’ve tried) and I’ve tried (and I’ve tried)
I can’t get no
I can’t get no
I can’t get no
Satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction
Hey

Whew! I’m exhausted from all that intense polka weirdness!
Thanks for joining me this Wednesday and every Wednesday as we celebrate the weirdness that is Weird Al Yankovic. Are you weirdos having fun yet?
And remember what I like to say …. It’s good to laugh!
That’s all she wrote, kids. See you on the flip side. 😎

Ha, that was great! I first realized what a helluva accordion player Weird Al is when I heard his parody version of Queen’s “Another One Bites Dust,” which he titled, “Another One Rides the Bus.” The man’s just incredibly talented! 🙂

Another One Rides The Bus is a classic; I wish there was a parody video to go with it. Al really is an incredibly clever, funny and talented artist. This video had me LOL. Thanks Christian! I’m glad you enjoyed this one.

At first I was trying to figure out how Weird Al got himself to look like Mick, then I read your explanation of how it came about. So funny, all those songs going fast. 🙂

I always wondered of people bothered to read the intro or went straight to the video! Now I know! 😂😂 I’m glad you enjoyed it once you got it all sorted out, Barbara! 😂

Yep, that’s what I usually do, start with the music, then read while I’m listening to it, or a bit before and more after. 🙂

Polkafied Stones – what a concept! 🤣🤣🤣 Weird Al did a great job with this ambitious project, which totally accentuates the “WEIRD”.

It can’t be easy to parody 12 different songs into one and make it look cohesive, but Weird Al did that here with his awesome weirdness. Totally fun and much better than the Bob Dylan Christmas polka song, Nancy.

This is the perfect example to demonstrate what an amazing talent Al really is. And he has 11 more of these medleys we haven’t seen yet. This fell into my lap while doing my research and the timing couldn’t be better. So pleased to know you liked this one, Jim. Thanks!
