Night of the Lepus: A Haibun

Written for dVerse Poets Haibun Monday 3-3-25.
Our inspiration this week is “March Madness”.
This is my haibun.

Why, oh why was I not blessed with a ferocious set of vocal cords? While I don’t have the heart of a lion, I’m every bit as cunning as a wolf. Perhaps the Creators in all their magnificent wisdom misunderstood when I prayed to be descended from the line of lupinus. Instead, I am a meek March hare, sprung forth from the long line of the lowly leporis. An easy mistake to make, isn’t it? But here in the moonlight with no one watching, I feel a bit of the magical madness coursing through me. Perhaps if I concentrate with all my leporine might, I may succeed one night in howling at the moon.

no wolf in sheep’s clothes
just a meek little March hare
looking for his voice

  1. You could have saved this song for Glyn’s challenge Nancy. When I was up in baby heaven the Creators asked me if I wanted any brains, but I misheard them thinking they said pains instead of brains, so I told them, “No thanks.”
