Want To Watch A Movie?

Full disclosure: I’ve never been a Will Ferrell movie fan but a friend kept badgering me to watch Elf so, to get him off my back, I agreed. I loved this movie from the start and now I’m hooked. It doesn’t hurt that Zooey Deschanel is so adorable and James Caan has a great gift for comedy. And casting Ed Asner as Santa was a stroke of brilliance. Watch this movie; you’ll love it! I am an Elf convert; it wouldn’t be Christmas in my house without watching this wonderful movie.

Arguably Will Ferrell’s best movie ever, Elf follows Buddy, a boy who’s raised as one of Santa’s elves after he’s accidentally sent to the North Pole. However, he doesn’t exactly fit in with the rest of the workers. Determined to find his real father, Buddy leaves the North Pole and ventures to NYC to search for him. But when Buddy finally reunites with his dad, chaos ensues.

Here’s a teaser:

I’ll save you a seat. Enjoy the movie! 🎥  🍿 🥤

  1. Here’s the kicker. I cannot stand Will Ferrell… however! In this movie, he’s great! (And I’ll have to admit I liked him in another so, I can no longer diss him completely.)

  2. “Elf” is another guilty holiday pleasure. Peter Dinklage plays a really irritable author who flies across Caan’s conference table to choke Will bc he’s (naively) insulted him one too many times. Strangely satisfying.

Will need to pull this movie out and place this on my stack for 2024 Christmas treats, next to “It’s a Wonderful Life.” 🧝‍♂️🤶🐧

  3. This movie is pretty good. We will probably watch it before Christmas Day, although we have lots lined up. Although I’m hardly a Will Ferrell fan, I did like him as Ron Burgundy, in Step Brothers and this. Merry festive season to you and your family Nancy. Byes for now.

  4. I’ve added Elf to my Christmas movie list along with Jimmy Stewarts two films, “It’s A Wonderful Life” and “Little Shop Around the Corner.” We watched “Red One” last night, and it’s OK, for an action AI Christmas mess. I do like JK Simmons in any role the fellow chooses. A small amount of Will Farrel goes a long way. He can be annoying bordering on stupid but will also give you a chuckle or two.

    1. That pretty much sums it up for me as well, Phil. It probably sounds un-American or anti-Christmas but I don’t get all warm inside from It’s A Wonderful Life. I find Jimmy Stewart a bit manic in that one and the whole story somewhat tedious. Bill and I will be skipping it this year but may tune in to Red One at some point during the week. Thanks for your thoughts.
